.44-40, options in NEW rifles?

Post by awp101 »

I need a .44-40 lever to complete my "set", are any of the major manufacturers building any that won't cost an arm and/or leg?

Thanks! :D

Uberti chambers their 1873 in 44WCF. Armi Sport does an 1892 in44WCF. Those are imported by Cimarron Arms, EMF, and Taylors among others.

IIRC, imported 1866 Winchester clones are available in .44-40, too.

Here's an EMF Winchester 92 clone:

and a Rossi:

And a Winchester 94, The Cheyenne Commemorative:

And a M-94 SRC:

I'm looking more for carbines, should have said that too...

Pete44, thanks there's some good stuff there. Who makes the EMFs? I was looking for them on the Gallery of Guns site since a shop close to me deals with them but I didn't see EMF listed. Nor did I see 92's listed on the EMF website.

I knew LSI didn't make them anymore but I didn't think anyone else was and $1100 even for a new 73 carbine is out of my range. :?

Looks like I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled online for a carbine that tickles my fancy and bank account at the same time.;)

[Who makes the EMFs?]

IIRC, only three companies, world-wide, currently actually manufacture John Browning's Model 92 design, Rossi (South America), Miroku (Japan), and Uberti (Italy) - although there are beau-coups importers, with as many different model names, for the same shootin' iron.

I believe the EMF's are Uberti's.

Nope, The EMF's are made by Rossi. The EMF/Rossi 44-40's are available as all blue SRC carbines Blue & CC SRC carbines and Blue and CC 20 and 24" oct rifles.

The only 92 coming out of Italy is the Armi sport/Chiappa made guns.

You bet,
But the prices are out of date. Since the shot show they have all gone up about $50. Give me a shout when you are ready.

Steve (Nate) didn't mention it but he can also "deal" with the stupid "new" (post Spring 06 on the EMFs, always on the LSI/Puma) safety atop the receiver--if it bugs you (like it does me and a bunch others). Otherwise, the same great 92 Rossi's been selling for years...and better yet I'm sure slicked over by Steve.

I have one of the Armi sports model 92 Win in 44-40; Good looker, nice fit of wood to metal and shoots well. I just read some where, can't remember where, that Armi was bought out by another manufacturer.
