Howdy,

I was kind of planning a trip to the Lone Star state next year to help the good citizens there with the problem. Man, I think I had better start putting in more hours reloading!

I'd be glad to come and help reduce the problem. But I expect to get paid for my labor. Not pay for doing it. Hmmmm, guess that's a problem then.

Hogs breed three times a year and produce something like 12 shoats per drop IIRC. They are a huge burgeoning problem all through the south.

A wildlife biologist recently told me that major interstate highways are actually a barrier to them spreading though. Which is weird...

I've been that close to a large gang of some that looked just like that - from afar, they looked like goats.... there was a very large sow in the lead of the group.

I would be willing to help reduce the numbers. By the way, here in Texas, wild pig may even be taken at night with spotlights legally. They are not a game animal, and may be taken by any legal means as long as the hunter has a valid hunting license.

And if it's your land, you don't need a license[ ], although some communities prohibit using firearms or hunting inside the city limits[ ].

Today about six miles from my house an 18 wheeler hit a group of 15 feral hogs. This was in front of a fellas house. The man said everyone of the porkers ran in front of and under the truck ! He was in his front yard watching the hogs when this happened. My buddy arrived just after this happened. He went to the fellers house to buy a watermelon & crayfish. My buddy said it killed every hog. Squished, mashed in half. Quite the sight. From about 200 lbs. down to tiny. Fully loaded semi did not even slow down !!

Headed north on I-95 yesterday south of Ft.Pierce I saw a solid black boar that was in the 200-250 class. He was in the ditch next to the "wildlife" fence.

I dunno if machine guns are allowed for hunting, but that herd makes me want to lay down a big fat beaten zone with a 60 on full bark!

if you want to make some money, rig up some cage (live) traps and put out the bait. Then truck them to ranches like the one out here. I don't know what the costs would be, but they are fetching $350 or so from hunters. Probably a little room for profit there, and free to take.

I wanted to go to Texas to shoot hogs, but everyone there wanted $100.00 a day to help them with their problem! That aint happening. Hope the hogs take over down there. They get bad enough maybe they will pay us hunters to thin them out!

If'n theys wants money  then I am movin on. I am willing to pay for my ammo and expenses to get there and that's it. Oh I forgot, my own food and libations. :D

I heard that there was a county in the north west part of Texas that payed a bounty for them! Don't know if that is true or not. Maybe some here can help out with that information??

That many hogs could ruin a farmer overnight. A 6.5 AR w/20 round mag. and 20 extra mags. would make a good hour of shooting.

You can use an AR, but whatever you do, if you expect to hit more than one in an engagement you need to be mounted and mobile. Pigs tend to run when gunfire erupts.

An AR-10 can reach out and touch 'em but a sturdy pickup truck loaded with shotguns woofin out 00 is a good bet in the 100yd dash.

Lots of wild hogs here in FL. Some of the nature preserves have one-day hunts to thin them out. In Big Bend National Park in Texas, I nearly hit a very big javelina (like a wild hog) on my motorcycle.

Javelinas are native - most definitely not an introduced pest animal.
