Nice to see an article that isn't basically just an 'advertisement' for some particular product.

No surprise it concluded the .45 Colt is a great hunting rifle...!

I was a bit disappointed in the article, they didn't get either rifle bloody to find out just how effective the Colt is out of a rifle. How can you write an article titled "The .45 Colt Lever-Action as a Hunting Rifle" without taking any game??

I read the article. It was a waste of time and band width. I've read better reports right here.

Owen,
By all means get to it. And let us know of your success.

Gents,
I don't remember his name, but a few yrs ago there was a man posting here regularly with great success on bear, deer and I think, elk in canada with a .45 C rifle who was very successful. I believe he used 300 gr. bullets most of the time.

As Great as the .45 Colt is don't ever think it will ever be a 45-70. it is a whole different ballpark.

I seem to remember that 45Stomp also took mountain goats with his .45 rifle.

I shoot a lot of 45's. 45 acp. 45-70, 45-110 and three 45 Colt pistols and Now a 45 long Colt Uberty Special Sporting rifle. The 45 Colt fed many of the early Westerners. As a bit more of a challange, I think it's a worthy task. A 270 and a scope is to easy. The 45-70 was the task last season and it worked three times on whitetail. Even the 357 pistol worked. Life is good and getting better.

Yep. I've taken several mule deer with .45 Colt. Some of the quickest drop and die I've had. Makes me have to get a little closer than I would with a scope, but a 300 gr bullet at 1200 fps makes a mighty fine hole that bleeds.
