a little nude sunbathing?

Post by El Chivo »

Well I took my first trip of the season up our local creek, and for the first time in years it was flowing. Saw a frog and a turtle, and a couple of snakes.

I'm pretty good on the rocks, usually I'm poetry in motion out there. However, at one point I could have back-tracked safely but decided to step on some tall rocks as a short-cut.

Well it has been some time since I lost my balance so completely while sober, but I ended up rolling around in two feet of water. So did my Marlin, my Mamiya camera, my pack, etc.

However it was too early to abort, so I went to the bank and spread everything out to dry. Wallet, keys, camera lenses, clothes. I put small rocks in my socks to spread them out to dry faster. For the next half hour I was lounging on a big rock in my boxers. You never saw anything so white.

Later on I had a close deer encounter, we were coming towards each other in a thicket. I could hear it but not see it. Finally he heard me and retreated.

.

Sounds like a good day on the water. :D Years ago, I took a bath in the Clearwater river of Idaho (fell off my trailbike), in the cold clear water which was less than 40 degrees, I remained only briefly. However, my Nikon F was completely submerged and came out totally full of water. I poured the water out of the camera then removed the lens and placed the whole outfit out in the hot sun to dry. I used that camera outfit for years after that with no issues whatever.
I hope that you have the same luck with your camera. The gun you can disassemble and clean.

I had my 336 in 35 Rem, which I was glad to have when I was in that thicket. I heard something big approaching and had just passed an old deer carcass with some fresh bear excrement. We were about 30 yards apart when he/she got wind of me and bounded away, definitely a deer.

About the camera, it's an old mechanical twin lens, and both lenses were fine. Water did get inside the camera and ruined the film, and also water got inside the focusing reticle. I took it apart when I got home and everything is fine.

I wish I could have had Olympic scoring on my dive, it was sort of a triple Lutz with a backwards lunge and simultaneous pirouette, ending with a face plant in the sandbar.

About photos, maybe Old Savage can dig into the archives.
