Winchester 1895 in .30-06 - worth $625??
Just saw it today, used but a beauty. Only flaw was a rub mark in the wood and the metal where the grip meets the receiver, like it rubbed against something while riding in a vehicle. Otherwise, it looks practically unfired.
How does $625 sound?
Looks like this one:

Yup. He refers to it as a hunter, ie, not a queen, and the guys were quite excited about it.
Maybe I could get my guy to take monthly $ and hold it. It sure had a great fit and finish, and a smooth as glass action.
I just picked up a Marlin 1894 in .357 for $280, and as I clean it up it's in much better shape than I thought. Maybe it's just my month? My birthday is this week - should I be good to myself??

I have one just like that one. That's one of the more disirable ones in IMHO, because it is still like the original. It has no rebounding hammer or tang safety.
My advice is run, don't walk, and get it bought before someone else buys it. Heck, I gave 900 for mine, several years ago, but I wouldn't take that now for it, although that is about the going price for them. $625 is a steal.
Mine is at the gunsmith as I write this, getting drilled and tapped for a Foolproof 71 sight, and I am also having the stock cut and a nice recoil pad added. I never liked that slick flat metal buttplate so I am changing mine. Mine is capable of very good accuracy, as long as I can see the sights and the target well.

Used Winchester and Browning repros of the 1895 generally start out around $800 or so and go up from there. Two local shops have Winchester 1895 Carbines in their new gun racks for around $1100-$1200.
I'd say $625 is a great price based on local experience.

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .
I'm with you 100% - the B&C trophy elk was taken with a '95 in 30-40 Krag was taken just west of Crested Butte, CO. TR also considered the '95 his favorite and took three in 405 Winchester plus one in 30-40 Krag on his hunts in Africa.505stevec wrote:OJ that is sure a purty gun!!! I dont know why but the 1895 Winchester has always seemed more teh "Big game rifle" of North America. I know the 71 comes in bigger better bullets nut I guess it is just the way it looks. It seems like a "sportsmans gun" if there is such a thing.
