Bison for birthday dinner

Post by crs »

Remember this beastie from our early July birthday hunt?

Well, the medallions of backstrap are delicious. Last night, the night before my actual birthday, the ladies of the house treated me to the medallions with gravy, wild rice with mushrooms, salad, wine, and for desert, a Texas peanut butter pan cake with chocolate sauce drizzled on it and a side of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.
And me with no after-dinner cigar!

Makes me want to go shoot something! :D

Sounds like a big thank you is owed to the ladies of the house. Sounds like a great dinner even sans cigar.

Sounds de-lish! I'm hard pressed to choose between elk tenderloins and prime cuts of bison, but the bison usually wins out.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks to all for the birthday wishes.
Also, I do let the cooks know how much I appreciate their efforts (so I get the leftovers :) )
This weekend, they promised to cook a front shoulder roast from the pig Troupe shot in January.
Guess I will have to do some more farm chores to earn that.

Ok, OK,
this is a test of a new recipe from Texas Monthly for preparing a hog shoulder roast much like pulled pork.
Marty wants to try the recipe on family before letting guests at it. However, I will ask if there will be enough to go around for all the Leverguns.com members in the Dallas area, if not, we will have to wait till cooler weather so we can prepare more food (yes we still have both ham and shoulder roasts from the Leverguns winter hog hunts), invite more people, and eat outdoors.

Another however, since you and Ricky are like family, if it turns out OK, I will save leftovers for you and share the recipe. :D
