Not sure why they did all that work on a 92 that was in such poor condition the metal on that 92 is rather poor, why not spend the money on one that has more original finish before going to the trouble of all that. I'm not impressed but thats just me. sorry.

Im pretty sure that when the gun was made it prob. had good metal. I have seen other Winchesters with ivory stocks. Here is a pic in the Winchester book by R.L. Wilson.





Obviously this is not a 92....but rather a 66

I handled an ivory stocked and extensively engraved 1873 SRC at a local auction site a few years back. Not for me, but it certainly was unique. It was made for El Presidente De Mexico, with eagle and snake, flag, and all sorts of embellishment. I believe that it sold for around $160K, IIRC.

I've seen a picture of another levergun with ivory buttstock and forend, but I don't remember where. As stated, it isn't for me either.

To me it’s kinda …well, Yuck..

The engraving is not even close to Winchesters, and, as stated earlier, it looks like the engraving and inlays were done over a less than pristine finish/surface.

The engraving really sucks, lines that should look straight, don’t!

Some of the gold and platinum inlays really look bad, thick spots…then thin spots …looks really amateurish. And all the Hash lines…

I really don’t want to get started on the stock.

Don't get me wrong, a ivory stocked firearm is actually a terrible idea from a practicability standpoint but is so unusual as to make it a trophy piece. A gold and nickel plated, engraved Win '73 with an ivory stock isn't really meant to be a firearm at all but rather a work of art.

It's as fancy as I have - given to me by my wife for our 25th anniversary 7 years ago. I shoots even better than it looks - I zeroed it at 25 yards to POA and POI same and "fine tuned it to hit 2" above POA at 100 yards -



Note pairs are under 1 MOA - "fist rest" (not bench rest) on range tale - isolated shots - elbow rest -

I think that work was done when the gun was new... ivory shrinks, and the bluing fades, but the silver & gold doesn't, leaving it good looking... and it was probably wiped down for the pics and removed any tarnish.

But, for fancy... I like this:

There's a '66 (or was it a '73) made with a solid silver frame, probably some alloy. Keeping the tarnish out of the engraving would be a pill. Uberti has a made a few replicas of that gun.

Which brings up something I've wondered about. It'd be interesting to try a '66 in a light aluminum alloy. All the '66 and '73 models I've ever lifted struck me as rather heavy for such a light cartridge.
