Who has a Win.1876 and willing to take measurements?

Post by Alphawolf45 »

I already have too many projects going as it is but its eating on me . I would like to eventually build a replica Winchester 1876 from barstock.. Who has one and can give me a few measurements off of it? I'd like to draw it out and get it started..

need to know where the 1876 dims differs from the smaller 1873 receiver..Starting with the length, width and depth of the mortise in which the brass cartridge carrier travels...?

Thanks kimwcook ...I feel guilty I based the 1873 project on a used receiver rather than building the receiver from barstock ..So to get that bit of redemption , figure I'll build receiver for an 1876 ...reasonable proposition as I cant find a used 1876 receiver within my humble budget...and 'sides its more satisfying to build the whole thing :)

I have an original. I would be willing to send it to you for you to pull what ever measurements you want off it and then return it. No ffl required. I would ask you pay for shipping and insurance.

Mike Johnson
Thats a very hospitable offer. Thank you Mike.. That could work real well.I will send a PM..Certainly I would be very happy to pay shipping and insurance both directions. You must check the parts and make note of any notable scratch or dings before shipping and check again upon return.I will guard against additional scratches and dings .I will make it right if anything happens to the receiver while its in my possession.
Guess I will move this 1876 project closer to front of the list :D

I screwed up folks, misread the post. I have an original 1886, not 1876. He still needs the measurements. sorry for the mistake.

Thanks Guys, youre a great crowd of levergunners..
Measurements would help but I dont really need'em.Since I am making all the parts there is no concern to be interchangeable with any authentic parts......... I know the overall length of the .45-60 cartridge and can change the dimensions of the 1873 to accommodate that longer cartridge..There might be a "gotcha" in there somewhere that I haven't anticipated but doubt there is anything in that project that could stop me altogether.... :D

It would be an honor to supply you with measurements! I'll shoot you a PM, Alphawolf45.
