Pheasants without a levergun

Post by Shrapnel »

Montana is the best place to live for enjoying the outdoors. Hunting season starts officially the first of September and runs until after the first of the year. Something is always in season. When you do go, you need a bunch of guns as the game is quite different. Pheasants are always a treat, and even better when gotten with an old English double...

What in the world is that in the second picture?
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.

Cool ole SxS. Love those smoothbores. I think you're holding a rabbit in the last pic, but hard to tell. Looks like that AR gutted and skinned it for you too. :D

Welcome aboard Shrapnel. I'd like to hear more about using the BAR on wabbits!! I have bicycled across Montana 0n US2 and had more fun BS'ing with residents than anything else Todd
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I am flattered by your comments, I don't know what to say. Starting from the top, a Swarovski cap from a Swarovski dealer for all the optics I sold for him. I do own several Swarovski scopes and a range finder and a set of EL's, so that should warrant a hat anyway. The shirt is Woolrich with a leather collar, if you have ever had one, you will appreciate the comfort. The vest is Filson, you can't find better no matter where you look. The pants are Cabela's Gore-Tex upland, very warm and comfortable, perfect for hunting pheasants on a day which was in the teens, temperature wise. The gators are Outdoor Research, Gore-Tex, they can't be beat for comfort and protection in snow, water and brush. The boots are Danner Pronghorn, 400 grain, just enough for a chilly day, but not too cold. The gloves are Yellowstone gloves, made of real buckskin in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They will keep your hands plenty warm to near zero degrees.

The shotgun is a Birmingham gun by Webley. It was made in the early part of the 20th century in 12 gauge with 2 1/2 inch chambers. It is an engraved gun with box locks and ejectors. I really like an English grip on a shotgun. I have a few close-ups...

Excellent Shrapnel. Great pics and yes, although I know little about them, the straight grips on graceful shotguns are very nice. Just out of curiousity, what is the "sleeved" on that last pic?

When Americans do anything to restore a gun, it generally ruins the value. The English have a tendency to try and keep a gun running forever. Re-sleeving is just that, the barrels have been sleeved and put back into original conditon. This doesn't affect the value of good English guns...

Excellent! I love a good doublegun. Wish we still had wild pheasants around here because I refuse to "hunt" the tame pen raised ones.
