OT: Any TV Repair Guru Out There?

Post by Blaine »

The old TV is hooked up to a antenna. It suddenly went snow, with maybe a faint pic showing thru. It works perfectly tuning thru the VCR. I have a blown tuner, yes?

(I fed the cable from the VCR directly into the TV and it made no difference, so it's not a bad cable)

Sounds like it to me. However, the last time I tried to get a TV (an OLD TV) fixed it cost more than to replace it.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Another thing to consider is that the old analog tuners are going to become obsolete away, being replaced by the digital TV channels becoming mandatory (2009?). I hear you'll be able to get some kinda of converter box for the older sets, similar to the old UHF converters that we had sitting on top of the Dumont back in the '50s. Man, think I just dated myself...

Not worth fixing unless it's larger than a 36" most likely. I wanted to get a 32" with a vertical hold problem fixed but was told I could get a new one for the same $.

What Tom said too.

I'll prolly just work it thru the VCR for now........ If I get bored and the tuner seems to be a plug in kind of thing, I might try to find one...... When it rains, it pours......All my (broken) chickens are coming home to roost this last couple months......Grrrrrr! And they quit OT on me suddenly at work....Grrrrrrrrrr!

Hey, since you got your answer, I'm gonna partially hijack this.

I recently recieved a television, (a Magnavox,) from a friend and the universal remote I have doesn't unlock everything in the TV's menu.
It's a nice TV for free, and I wonder if there's a better remote than the One For All.

Anyone?

I think you're just gonna have to live without those features. I don't think any universal remote can do all that stuff.

Use the TV with the VCR until the analog broadcasts are turned off. Get a digital receiver you can plug into your computer, if it's a decent modern one, and output that to the TV and it'll keep working after that.
it works fine tuning through the VCR
how do you have this arranged, is the TV on channel 3 or 4, or is it on "video" or "Aux" or something?

Bet you can find the OEM exact replacement remote if you look hard enough. For openers, try:

Good luck :D

or you can take it to the range and adjust it with a 45/70 say 400 gr at 1800 fps ought to do it; that is all tv is worth anyway.

I'm with cable. I have found a combination of 12 ga. - .357 and .45 Colts really repairs them just fine.
