I can see the Mossberg marketing and engineering department heads talking....."...we need to jump into the "Zombie" gun market before the trend is over. If Taurus can do it we can too!".....
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Well, I personally cannot stand anything on the AR platform. However, they sell like hotcakes and the aftermarket products from them is booming. I am traditional enough that I see a scope on a levergun I feel it looks out of place. But these are just ONE opinion of one oldman. What is pleasing to my eyes may look like old junk to another. That said, who am I to say that a uber tatical looking levergun is bad? Folks that like the AR style weapon might like this levergun platform with all the high tech gizmos. Would I own one? No. Will I loose sleep over it? No. Will I slam anyone that has one? No.....Everyone has something that another does not like. That is what make us all different.

That thing is worse than the Stoeger Double Defence over/under and that's saying something. Don't expect I'll be seeing too many of either on the racks around here.

I agree with Wade and Pitchy. That thing is an abomination. A birth defect that should have been aborted. A cross bred mutt that should have been drowned before it saw the light of day.
I can't say enough bad things about that ...... thing.
And the Mossberg people putting this thing out is a direct reflection on their firearms heritage and lack of tradition.

You hate it, I hate it, so far everyone on this site hates it. But I'm not about to bash Mossberg for they're not in business to please your sense of firearm heritage and tradition. If they think they can make money off the thing more power to em. The sad part is that if you post this same thread over at a site like The Firing Line you'll still have folks that hate it like us but you'll also have a large tacticool crowd drooling over it. Are they morons? Yes and I hope Mossberg makes a lot of money off of them.J Miller wrote:

Since I live in Florida, I will undoubtedly see one of those at the range before too long. I just hope they've fixed the functional problems with their 464. People that buy them and experience the issues will probably not try another lever rifle anytime soon. Hopefully OJ got his to a satisfactory point.
At least the Brazilians seem to be able to produce functioning copies of Winchester and Marlin models. As well as the Italians obviously ... in spite of their apparent difficulties maneuvering large ships. No offense to our resident Italian sage ... Sixgun.

Nope, Hobie, I posted about that earlier this month. I just hadn't followed up on the heads up I got; at the time there wasn't a picture on their website! It is even uglier than I imagined. But... I've got a friend with an AR platform with every available option known to mankind... I might just have to get one and "bling" it up a little!!!! He thinks I'm nuts already with all my levers... but I consistently outshoot him... somehow, I can't convince him that it's the nut behind the trigger, not the toys hangin' off yer gun!
Nope, the next acquisition is a new (ok, rebuilt) M-1 Garand.

I'm glad to see the folks at Mossberg have not just been sitting on their hands; resting on their laurels, but are busy finding new and different ways to offend our sensibilities.. Would that this latest abomination were a joke, but alas, I know that it is not..

Re: Have all y'all missed these new Mossbergs?
I consider myself most unfortunaate, for knowing a few individuals who will see this nightmare as a dreamcome true.. The 45 year old Boys, who deck themselves in full tactical gear, just to go coyote "hunting" out here in the Big Horn Basin.. They will view this "new" contraption as the finest invention since sliced bread (which I also despise..) and will take to it like a DUKW to water...

And the truly sad thing is that we will be seeing these at the range with their proud owners. Too bad the grand old 30-30 was chosen as the chambering. Probably the worst press the cartridge has ever had.

Re: Have all y'all missed these new Mossbergs?
I don't understand ----- and my head hurts a little to look at it --- i thought my .45 Trapper with a Ramline stock was bad enough .......... OY - it looks like a crown jewel in comparison
They (Mossberg) make a model with a green laminated stock and some kind of hardkote finish (it looks like a stainless gun but is not) -- that i like and would add to my inventory if i ever saw one , its around 400-450 bucks or so -------- if the problems the early ones were having have been corrected -- OJ's story about his has me a bit leery though
I just wonder if the people that buy this even realize that they can probably get an AK-74 clone and a case or two of cheap blasting ammo for the same price as this rifle (maybe even an AR clone of some sort) --- then they would have what they really wanted -- oh well

Re: Have all y'all missed these new Mossbergs?
Mossberg is trying to resurect the interest, dependence and demand for lever actions and the ol' thuty-thuty. The marketing people think "tacticool" will invoke new found interest in the time-tested design and well proven cartridge. The hope is that Generation Y will realize the usefulness and dependability of the levergun and versatility of the 30WCF. The next stage for the new owner would be a .22 for plinking and small game and a 30WCF in a more traditional format, or a 45-70 (Mossberg has tossed the idea around) for big game hunting. I'll bet for some consumers this platform will draw their attention and they will respond as Mossberg hopes they will by expanding their levergun tools and applications. I just hope they have all the bugs worked out. If it proves to be unreliable or easily put out of commission, just the opposite will occur. The conclusion will be a reinforcement of what they previously may have thought - that leverguns are outdated and inferior. While this gun is no for me because it doesn't suit my tastes or uses I think Mossberg should be commended for thinking outside the box and bringing a "retro" platform into the modern position to reach the new generation.
About 80 years after the heyday of the single shot rifle's initial popularity (primarily as buffalo guns but also big game hunting rifles) a lot of folks were laughing at Bill Ruger for bringing the hammer rifle into modern form. After the heckling subsided, lots of folks bought #1's and 3's and expanded into modern Sharps clones, Dakota's and a bunch of other single shot rifles.

You won't find one sitting in my closet or by my bed anytime soon, but to each his own i guess. I don't know that it really appeals to any single group. The "tacticool" guys probably won't like it cuz it's not semi-auto, and the traditional guys like us don't like it cuz it's, well, not traditional. I guess it may appeal to a certain few that just like guns, or that love the newest gadgets to come out.
Is it practical? Could be for those that like a lever for self defense. You can mount lights and all kinds of other stuff on the rails. Is it visually appealing? Let's just say it's the Nancy Pelosi of leverguns

Actually, Joe is not far off the mark here. My one wish is that they'd also brought out something for us traditionalists... something not offered currently. Like a .32-40 26" octagon barreled... or maybe a .38-55 in that same configuration... I have enough .30-30s... well... ok, maybe not... but...86er wrote:...I think Mossberg should be commended for thinking outside the box and bringing a "retro" platform into the modern position to reach the new generation.

While I don't want one, they make me think of a couple of thoughts:
1) is that stock one of those recoil reducing stocks? I know some who do not enjot shooting a steel butt plate win '94.
2) hats off to Mossberg for thinking outside of the box
3) if only a very few buy them, then the few that do buy them will probably be sitting on a rare beast in years.
My hind site is always 20/20. Its my fore site that sucks.

2) hats off to Mossberg for thinking outside of the box
3) if only a very few buy them, then the few that do buy them will probably be sitting on a rare beast in years.
My hind site is always 20/20. Its my fore site that sucks.

It would be one thing if they would have introduced and amazeing bulletproof rifle that was utterly reliable, that set the shooting world on it's ear.then I could see them comeing out with something like this. but they didn't even make a rifle that worked out of the box for alot of Shooters, the rifle itself is "less" than anything it tries to compete with. Sad in todays world.

Fugly comes to mind.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder & I don't see any beauty in that gun.
What I see are alota wasted resources creating a ballistic eyesore that nobody is going to buy.
Some old hippy who is now working in the design department at Mossberg must be having LSD flashbacks.
Wish either Rossi or Mossberg would make a Winchester 1886 clone levergun in .444 Marlin, .450 Marlin, .45-70 Gvt, AND .475 Turnbull without going nutso on the stupid safety stuff (no tang safety or rebounding hammer or unsightly safety switch on the receiver).
That would be nice.
