Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
Gun shop has a original Marlin 1895 Deluxe half round half octagon in 40-82. Bore is excellent, still has some case coloring , lever has some surface rust. The only bad spot is in the stock at the wrist , the checking is wore in a spot, maybe from a guncase snap. They want $1599 for it. Not sure if that is a really good price. I've only seen one other before and that was in 45-90 ,but wasn't a deluxe and it sold for over $2500. So if you have an idea of what you seen these go for let me . Thanks.
Re: Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
That price is between 50% and 60% going by the blue book, but I haven't been out pricing something like that.
This guy was asking about $1900:

Here's one that was about $1800:

If it's pre 1898, that may change the value upwards.
Hope that helps a bit.

A "Deluxe" 1895, with special order features, for $1600? Unless it was reblued over pitted metal and the barrel was cut down I probably would not have left the store without it. Marlin only made about 5300 Model 1895's and very few were deluxe models.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
I owned four original Model 1895's a year or two ago . All mine were standard grade . And two of those were $2500 or more !
I bought a really nice standard grade from Leroy Merz and paid $3000 and that was in 2006 . That one was a 38-56 which I believe is the least rare of the calibers . At the same time I bought another in 40-65 from a guy in Fairbanks Alaska and that one was exactly $2500 . The other two were about $2000 each . Of the ones I had two were made in 1896 , one in 1897 and the 33 WCF I had was made in 1912 to 1916 I believe .
Anyway $1500 is a great price even for a standard grade if it's not beem messed with !

Ben - is this the same gunshop that had the 45-90? If you don't jump on it, hold it for me.

Kell , do you have sixth sense that you come out of the wood work when old Marlin 1895's are being talked about. Different gunshop.
Well gentlemen I just don't have that kind of cash laying around for this . So I did the next best thing and told a friend who went and put it on layaway. He has to sell some stuff to pay for it. But good thing is I get to shoot it. I joined the local range and I'm going start set up a biweekly siluhette levergun practice shoot this summer. So I will get to throw some lead with this gun. I'll post some picks once my friend picks it up.

Good luck to you and your friend in finding some ammo for that 40-82. I still haven't found any for my Winchester 1886, and I have been looking for a while.
Re: Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
Ammo is easy to get. This outfit will also reload the brass for you.

Re: Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
Actually I was surprised that brass and bullets weren't hard to find for reloading.
Re: Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
Simple to make the brass from Starline .45-90 cases. Lube and run through .40-82 sizing die. You can also get correctly headstamped brass from Jamison. Spendy at 2 bucks each, though.southfork wrote:Good luck to you and your friend in finding some ammo for that 40-82. Re: Price check Marlin 1895 40-82
Given 6pt's comments and what I've seen on the internet, I'd say that your friend's got a heck of a deal going! I must admit that I'm astounded at the prices Marlins are bringing these days...
Back in the early 60's I decided I was going to collect old Marlins; no one seemed to be interested in them, and I couldn't afford Winchesters. The only Model 1895 I've ever seen was a 38-56 TD with 32" barrel that I bought from a man in Selma, Alabama through the old Shotgun News.I paid $65.00 for it!
I had a fair number of decent guns, but a growing family and the GCA 68 put paid to my aspirations. I've got a vestigial old Marlin - a first-year Model 336ADL that kind of reminds me of the old days.
Carry on, men!

Sounds like a great find. Hope it shoots well. I have a few Marlins, nothing old, and never had a problem with any of them. PillHer's 336C is amazingly accurate, it gives sub 1" groups off the bench at 100 yards with every brand of 150 and 170 grain ammo we have ever tried it with. She has a red dot sight on it, and you can never see the bullet holes as the red dot covers them. Hope the 40-82 does as well.
