POLITICAL: Nader has entered the race. Good or Bad?

Post by Bogie35 »

Just read it on Yahoo news. He may have helped keep Gore out in 2000. Could his candidacy foil the Democrats' chances again? Let's hope.

Nader is that wierd guy you ocassionally see standing on street corners downtown with a big dirty sign that says "THE END IS NEAR".

Momentarily disturbing, but at the end of the day, unimportant.

:o
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

He will take some dem votes. Without him Gore would likely have won Fla.

He was the bonehead who managed to get rid of one of the most advanced autos of the 60's ... the Corvair.

He usually takes votes from the D's.

Normally he is a draw on the Dems. The one purpose he seems to serve is to bring up the extreme liberal point of view and force the Dems to address that portion of the party (a portion of the party they don't want to talk to because it puts off all other reasonable people). If they ignore him then the libs have a candidate to vote for in opposition to the Dem nominee and it siphons away votes.

If he's serious, he will pull votes from the Dems in the general election. He has done this before, we need to send him a couple of bucks for his campaign. Can only help the Republicans. Go Ralph!

IMHO, Nader's voting block consists primarily of people who wouldn't have voted had he not been in the race. That is, his effect is nil on the outcome. He doesn't dilute either vote to any measurable extent. He does make things more interesting, though, if not a bit hard on the blood pressure.

IMHO, Nader and Ron Paul are cut from the same cloth. Well meaning but nutty.

I think that's all he's going to do. If enough people vote their conciense, we may be seeing Osama or Billary in the White House. I don't think McCain's going to win if people vote their conciense and write in. I haven't decided which I'm going to do yet. Enough people have died to protect my freedoms that I think I should write in. But then again having Osama or Billary really scares me, but I don't think McCain's that much better, if any. If anything McCain may be a little more conservative just because if he's not, he will lose a lot of support from Repub's and have zero chance for re-election. Of Osama and Billary, I think Osama is the lesser of the two, but I really don't want to find out. So, in response to the original question, I think Nader is a no factor in this election. The most he'll do is draw people who don't usually vote, and take a small percentage of the extreme hippie votes that would've gone to the Dem's otherwise.

If he talks about open borders, nationalized health care, and says
socialist values are the best in the world.

THEN I REALLY HOPE HE RUNS

Oyea, he also has to bring up the word "hope" at least three times a minute, and
that word has to be followed by "change". Can't forget that one

According to the Dems he took 75,000 votes from Gore in Florida and cost the Dems the election. We'll see.

According to the Dems, Bush stole the election in Florida, even though EVERY recount, no matter how liberally they counted depressions and pregnant chads, showed Bush the winner. Perhaps the Dems are right about Nader, but I have a hard time taking their statement at face value.

My personal experience, having worked at the 2000 election, was that Nader mobilized people who wouldn't have voted for Gore or Bush. They would have stayed home. I could be wrong, though. Wouldn't be the first time and certainly won't be the last.
