Remove tang safety and rebound hammer

Post by BILLYDIXON »

I have a Winchester 1886 I bought it new in 2002. I've never shot it but would like to remove the tang safety and rebound hammer.
Thanks

Yep. If you have any technical questions just ask. A number of people haver converted their rebounding systems. I for one.

I think Steve our own Nate Kiowa Jones once did a picture thread on one he did. I couldn't find the link, maybe someone stored it. It was a real pretty job.

I will be doing another one next week. When I convert I tig weld n a filler on the hammer to get rid of the gap and recut the safety notch deeper and then re harden the hammer. One again this NEW Winchester 1886 misfires about every 20 rounds r so and sufferes from weak primer hits. Groups string badly with black powder. So we void another Winchester warrenty.

Thanks so much for the info. I had read about the conversion along time ago. But couldn't remember were. It doesn't look to hard.
Thanks again
