Thumbs up to Clyde Ludwig!
Thanks to Clyde, I decommissioned the cross bolt safeties on two of my Marlins tonight, my brand new 1894c and my 1895. It only took one week to get the safety replacements from Clyde and he doesn't charge extra shipping on multiple orders. I must say, if Marlin had to put an extra safety on their leverguns, at least they made one that is easily gotten rid of, and thanks to Clyde's work the fix looks good.
Agreed nemhed. All of my safetied Marlins wear Mr. Ludwig's invention. 1886.

Actually I think that would look sharp with blued screws & maybe a blued gate. Heck you put a blued sight on it.kentdep wrote:I liked Clyde's safety replacement too and I have them on my blued guns. I wanted one too for my 1895GS and needed one in stainless. Since nobody makes one in stainless, I made my own.

deerwhacker444,
Thanks for the schematic. Now if I had a lathe and some smarts I'd make my own.
I don't like that screw slot on the right side, it makes it look too busy. As much of an improvement over the safety as Clydes is, it's about .020" below the surface of the receiver. So I need a special custom one.

Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits.
