Back on the water! :) Day 2, More Photos.

Post by 2ndovc »

I've been wavering between a canoe and a kayak for months and couldn't make up my mind
when last week a co-worker mentioned he was going to sell his Kayak. I asked how much and
the deal was done.

Perfect morning on Lake Erie, slight breeze from the South, a little overcast and calm seas.
This is a shot of the neighborhood where I grew up.

Our little harbour. At the deepest the Vermilion River is only about 16'

A shot to the East.

I should have taken a shot of the big wide open lake behind me. Maybe tomorrow.
Going out again in the morning.
I love this little boat, a little small for me but a lot of fun!

I still can't get my photos in the text without them being HUGE!!! Frustrating!!!

Really enjoyed it today. It's only 11' and I'm up against it's weight capacity with my being 6'2" and 260 plus my gear
which isn't that much. It will do for the rest of this summer but I'd like to move up to a 16 footer. I'll keep this one for the kids.

Heading up river tomorrow. More pictures then.

I only went a couple miles today and was feeling pretty good that I got in and out of it without embarassing myself.
Carrying it back to the truck. That 'bout did me in!
Didn't realize how out of shape I am. Gonna fix that!!!

Day two!

I got to the beach about 8am. Lake was calm but the wind was picking up.
Took a couple photos of the harbor and the little Maritime Museum on the West side of the beach.
Really nice little museum that I haven't been in for years.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128 ... 000724.jpg
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128 ... 000725.jpg

I headed up river for about mile and a half or so.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128 ... 000727.jpg
Took a channel that I knew linked up with the one I grew up on. Really hasn't changed much except where I used to live.
The guy my dad sold our house to tore it down and built two on the extra large lot. Really sad. It was a neat place. Now it looks
like any other over the top house you can see in any "Vinyl Villiage"!

I'd noticed that the wind had really kicked up in the last hour so I started back down river.
http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q128 ... 000729.jpg

By the time I got back on the lake it had gone from near calm to little two foot white caps. Gotta love Lake Erie! :D
Had an exciting paddle back to the beach. Took a couple nice waves over the bow. Was thinking that I was really happy
that I can swim like a fish. :D
Didn't get any pictures of that part.

Anyway, got some good excercise and had some fun. I wish I'd bought one years ago!

I'd be out again tomorrow morning if I didn't have to go to work! It's even still in the back of my truck!

I'm 'bout wore out! I haven't had that much sun and excercise in some time. That's the other reason I bought it.
I can't run anymore because my knees are shot and since I've gone to strictly sales and not out in the field part time like I used to
be I've gotten really soft and i don't like it.
Once it cools off a bit I should be get some late afternoon paddling in.
