Quake of 7.7 off Samar in Philippines

Post by 6pt-sika »

There was a quake at approx 9 AM eastern time today (8-31-12) right off the coast of the island of Samar in the Philippines .

My finacee who lives on Mindanao in the city of Cagayan de Oro told me it was the worst quake she's felt since she was a young girl and she's 50+ like myself !

Any thoughts on their behalf would be appreciatted I am sure .

I'm glad your fiancee is safe, they sure have had it rough lately, I was corresponding with the Armscor Company a couple of weeks ago and they told me they closed the factory so that their workers could sort out the damage done to their homes by the flooding.

.

Copy of the email they sent 9th August 2012.

Dear John,

Thank you very much for your prayers. We are near the Marikina River and
most of our employees live within the vicinity. Our company suspended work
last Tuesday so our employees can tend to their homes and families. Our
company is extending help to all affected employees. As part of our
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we are now housing and feeding
evacuees affected by landslide near our factory.

Again, thank you very much.

MELY

From Samar, to CDO City has got to be something around 250miles. That's amazing she felt it that far south.
Besides Metro Manila, I think Armscor also has an operation in Cebu City, which would much closer to the quake.
My g/f is returning from Manila this weekend.

I'll go one better, and do 'prayer' instead of 'thought'.
