I imagine that, aside from the length overall considerations such as needing to deeply seat some bullets, it is much like the TCU series of cartridges. I like the 7mm TCU. HOWEVER, I'm kinda soft on wildcats for use on the AR platform. Not because of performance but because of issues of brass and ammo availability.

Seems to em that John Wooters had a small action Sako rebarreled to either a 6mm or 25 cal based on a necked up 222 REM MAG or 223 REM case . Granted if it were a necked up REM MAG case it would be the old 6x47 benchrest round . But still seem to remmember him doing some such thing for a deer rifle . Think it was for his wife to use on their south Texas ranch . But it's been so long since I remmember reading it I'm sure I've forgotten some of their finer points .

I loaned out my presure equipment for some preliminary testing on just such and round intended for the AR platform. It was driving an 87gr at just a hair under 3,000fps. It is intended to be brought out as a commercially made round by the end of the year or early next. Other weights were involved but I don't remember the numbers because I really don't give a flying whoop about AR stuff or itty bitty bullets.

Yea I bought an AR receiver, kept it for a year, did absolutely nothing to it, and sold it. I remembered why I hated them in the Army, so decided it was not worth the $1100+ it would cost to make a rifle I didn't like in the first place.

Bought me a used JC Higgins 42 in 22LR with the money. I pick it up tomorrow! Best thing I ever did.

We have an XP-100 at the shop thats a 7x47 . Thats a 222 REM MAG necked up to 7mm . A friends wife used this one a couple years to shoot Unlimted silhouette .

I've been debating that one as a possible Handrifle for deer . Should be adequate inside 100 yards with a 139 or 140 grain bullet .


Earlier today I was reading a Gun Digest from 1977 I believe and San Fadalla did the same thing as Wooters . He took a Sako 461 action and barreled it for a 6x47 for his wife to use for whitetails . Seemed to work nicely for them as long as they didn't try to stretch it !

So with that being siad I see no reason it wouldn't work in an AR if one were so inclined .

Personally if I were gonna go with the AR15 as the base I'd get an upper for a 243 WSSM or 25 WSSM .

But then I buy everything based on whether I can kill a deer with it

6pt, Mr. Wooters' cartridge was the .25-222 Copperhead on the original .222 case. Decided he didn't need the extra capacity of the longer cases and liked the longer neck of the .222. Wayne Blackwell is the one that did a good bit of work, and writing, on the 6.35x47 (.25-222 mag) in both rifles and Contender handguns.

Rimfire, the .257 Kimber was based on the .222 magnum case with the neck expanded and the shoulder blown FORWARD. Speeds were well above the Copperhead but not quite up to the .250 Savage.
