Re: It`s a wonderful white morning.
Yeah. You say that, now. (grin)
I remember as a young pup. Whenever the first big snowfall of the season came in my dad and I would suit up and go for a walk. There's something magical about crunching through the fresh snow. Very little sound because the snowflakes absorb it. There may be the occasional lights of distant houses, or not, depending on how much it's snowing.

Pitch,
That is a nice picture and I agree with you as the first snowfall makes one want to take a walk, maybe carrying a little .22 of some sort.
I love the snow but we don't get it here very much 'till the first of the year or so.
Take that walk for me bro!-------Sixgun
Hey, I like those additional pics! If it was not for the Remington, I'd have to say that pic was taken in 1762.-if they had pics then.
Your livin large with all of that isolation---thats the way I like it..........no one nasty to look at.

I won`t apologize for the 81 as i think it`s a classic but i do agree a lever would of fit in here better.
I might go out again later and carry the 76.

Re: It`s a wonderful white morning.
I wouldn't mind a couple of inches of white stuff next weekend either. I'm bringing my nephew on his first ever deer hunt at my grandfathers, his great grandfathers farm. The history continues. He hasn't had time to really explore the area so he doesn't really know the lay of land very well. Tracking snow would be good both for deer and looking for him if he doesn't follow directions. He is a good young man and is anxious to learn so I'm not really worried too much, but there is a lot of bush and swamp and a guy can get turned around real easy if you don't know the area.
I have a few spots for him to sit that have gotten me a couple of nice bucks in the past (an 8 and a 10 point) and walkie talkies so we should be good to go. I'm not looking to shoot anything unless a real good one shows up. I'm going to try and go slow and push things to him if possible.
Nothing better than a slow walk in a little snow to see what is going where.

What the heck is all that white stuff on the ground? Right now it's a comfortable 78°F at my place. Just so you know what winter "should" be like.

Newport Beach yesterday - no snow!
Re: It`s a wonderful white morning.
Just beautiful! Contrary to popular belief and CofC ads, we get snow in Arizona, some years lots of it. Once or twice in the last several decades we've had the most snow (and lowest temps) of anywhere in the continental US, and when in college the local ski area had to be shut down for too much of the stuff (and tunnels dug to maintain the lifts!) When's the last time you heard that?...But, from the big cities, you have to drive a few hours up north in the state usually to see it. (In Tucson, just 45 minutes up the mountain) -Something folks in snow country can't even relate to - voluntarily drive somewhere to actually be in the snow?!
Every five or so years we get a very brief dusting here in parts of the Phoenix area, and every other year the mountains surrounding get a good topping at least once or twice. A few years the Phoenix Open (in Scottsdale) was actually briefly delayed a bit for snow! - But, that's up in elevation a bit from most of the Valley. I grew up (3-10) in the white stuff, N.Virgina and Japan, and miss it. But not that much Love the scenes of it though and nice to be able to drive to it!

I miss snow sometimes. I grew up in SouthWest Kansas and we had snow. You would see a lot of bare ground and then there would be huge drifts behind the fences and on the leeward side of the houses.

Actually when I lived on Maui Mt. Haleakala at 10,000' elevation would get snow about every 4 years but it would melt away in about 3 days time.
When I lived on the Big Island of Hawai'i with both Mauna Kea, and Mauna Loa pushing 14,000' every winter there was enough snow to snow ski or snow board.

Ji,
That would make Mauna Kea nd Mauna Loa two of the tallest mountains around - measured a relief from their land base (sea level)! Few others would even come close. As spectacular as they are, the "fourteeners" in Colorado for instance are actually "just" 5-8k or so in relief. Your Hawaiians viewed top to bottom are pushing the total elevations of the tallest in the lower 48. Only Whitney, coming up from near Death Valley on the one side, would be with them! (Ed. Mt. Ranier would be right in there).
