32 special in Marlin 336 question
Does anyone know either what years Marlin offered the 336 in 32 special - OR - when they stopped chambering the 336 in this caliber????
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: 32 special in Marlin 336 question
I once read on a Marlin Owners thread that the 336 was chambered in .32 Special from 1948 until 1963. Thought it was interesting and wrote it down since mine (my Dad's) was made in 1953.
I don't know if these dates are factual, just something that I read once.

Thanks guys - sounds like they haven't made them in a while!
Re: 32 special in Marlin 336 question
AFAIK, the .32 Special was introduced in the "new" Model 336 by Marlin in 1948, and discontinued the chambering in 1962.

Re: 32 special in Marlin 336 question
The 32 Special was in the 336 from the inception . I was thinking I also read somewhere that they stopped chambering for it in the early to mid 60's .
The 32 Special was also chambered in the Model 1893 , 93 , 1936 and 36 .
In the early 1893's it was call the 32 HPS . Just more useless insignificant info

Re: 32 special in Marlin 336 question
a friend i used to deer hunt with in the Catskill Mts in NYS had an old used Marlin 336 in 32spl...it was his go to gun...he shot allot of deer with that gun...he did so well with that cartridge that i thought my Marlin 336 30/30 was inadequate (this was when deer hunting and anything larger than a .22cal rifle was new to me)...nice gun and cartridge combo... :)
Re: 32 special in Marlin 336 question
Yeah,
I like the 32 special. I (actually my son) inherited a winchester 94 in 32WS from my uncle. it has I think 25 notches cut in the stock where he kept track of his deer.
my dad just gave me a very nice marlin in 35 rem (1969 vintage) and I was thinking of returning the favor with a 32.

I had three Marlin's in 32 Special for awhile . The first one I got was a model 1936 with the 24" barrel that was in very nice shape . The secodn I got was a 336SC of 1951 vintage and the last one was a model 1893 of about 1910 vintage .
I had a tang sight on the 1936 and a Lyman peep on the 336SC .
Used the 1936 and the 336SC at John Kort's Lever Action Jubilee a few years back .
I also used the 336SC with the RCBS 32-170 GC bullet to take a deer or two .
I make no seceret about the fact that I like the 32 Special more then the 30-30 . No real reason I just like the 32 more then the 30-30 .

i think it's more of everyone and their brother had a 30-30 and a select few had 32's !
I like the 32 Special quite a bit , but I like the 32-40 even more . I had a nice old Model 1893 of 1906 vintage with a half round half octagon barrel and full length mag tube . Used that one a bit for silhouette and killed a rather dumb 3 point whitetail at about 50 yards using the open sights on the gun .
I used t get a big kick outta using those old Marlin's with cast bullets and iron sights .
