Nearby hog hunting?
I'm in SE Arizona between Nogales and Douglas. Where is the nearest place for me to hunt hogs?

Re: Nearby hog hunting?
Somewhere (?) on the 'net I saw a map showing a huntable population of pigs in the bootheal of New Mexico (along the AZ border). I was very surprised at that considering the lack of water there. Not sure if it is true or not.I may try to check it out this coming spring.Looks like a neat area to explore, hogs or not.

In Arizona, you don't need a licence. Don't confuse with Javalina, they are protected, and you need a hard to come by tag for them.

Re: Nearby hog hunting?
Blaine is right,
I have been trying for 20 years, and have not got one.
I think I have figured it out though, at fish and game there works a woman who processes the applications.
She had a romantic relationship with a guy with the same name as me, and he was a real loser.
now, whenever she sees that name it goes in file 13.
Gotta be!

Re: Nearby hog hunting?
There was-- is a ranch near Arivaca that had hogs to hunt.
AZ Game & Fish could help.
In the late 80's thru about 96 I killed several between Deming and Animas NM.
Had friends in Deming , we would drag a few two tracks between 9pm and midnight and then check for tracks at first light.
Between 1968 and 1998 I tagged a Javelina every year in S. AZ., tags were never problem, had friends who missed the dead line in later years and would get tags over the counter.
Have fun-- J

Re: Nearby hog hunting?
I didn't know javelina tags were scarce. I'm sure there are some areas that have more tags than others. The only thing is, I wouldn't want to eat one of those smelly critters. NASTY! The only thing I would want to do is feed it to the coyotes and keep the head for the skull. I've heard that some of the locals of Mexican descent can make decent tamales out of them, but I haven't actually met anyone that didn't turn up their nose at the thought of eating javelina.

Yep,
You said it.
It is the only thing I ever wanted to mount,
it does not look like I am going to.

Yeah, I want to boil and bleach the skull. I think it would look cool.

Re: Nearby hog hunting?
I just looked at the 2013 spring draw regs and the limit is now two instead of one. Maybe there are more javelina around this year.
