OT - 22 LR Brands ?

Question for you guys that shoot 22 revolvers.
What brands seem to work the best for you?

I got out today with my New Frontier and did some
target shooting. I was very impressed with the
Winchester T22â€™s. I was averaging 1â€

My single six leads up really badly with any plain lead bullets so now I only feed it copper coated stuff, usually the federal bulk pack because at this stage I cant shoot well enough to tell the difference between what it will shoot and what it shoots best with.
When you look for ammo dont let price be an indicator, my Marlin shoots best at 100yds with a $6 box, 1/8" worse with a $2.50 box and 1" worse with a $12 box.

Buy a box of everything you can find and try it all. 22's are funny as to what they like. For instance:

My TC Contender 12" barrel 22lr, likes and shoots the best with PMC Zapper Solids. I bought a case of 5000.

My Browning HP, with the Ceiner 22 conversion, likes Winchester Super X Solids.

My Ruger Stainless Single Six W/ 22LR cylinder, WalMart Federal 22's in the 550 bulk pak holow points. for plinking. For Accuracy the PMC Zapper Solids. For the 22 Mag cylinder, Winchester Supreme 22 Mag. ($10.00 a box of 50)

Remington 588 22LR Rifle, Remington Hollow Points ( golden bullets).

I stock what they like.

As has been said above by others -- each .22LR rifle, revolver, or pistol seems to have one brand that shoots especially well from them. However, I've found through the years that the Winchester Super X High Velocity 40gr Lead HP/Lubaloy coated shoots well enough in all my .22LRs and that is the ammo I use in my .22LR guns.

I've had good luck with the Winchesters and Remingtons with plated bullets. I've also had good luck sometimes with the cheap Federal Lightnings. But you can't tell in advance what ammo a particular gun will like, you have to test them and you might be surprised.

I use only the mini mags or the cci all lead head. thats what I used in all my .22 rifles and pistols, seem to work ok with me. sorry you didn't have any success. I won't be shooting my .22 for the next year since I went to all BP. Just have to use the .22 air rifle instead.

I've had the best results with Aguila Pistol Match, followed by the CCI green box standard velocity stuff, and then the bulk packaged Federal LR HP that's sold at Wal-Mart.

Like it's been said ever gun is a law unto itself. However all three of my .22 pistols, 1959 vintage Ruger Standard auto, 1933 H&R Sportsman, and 1966 Ruger Super Single-Six do real well on the Aquila Pistol Match.

Every pistol shoots any ammo differently from other pistols! I just got through shooting 4 of my S&W K frame .22s in a buddys Ransom Rest and they all shot several different brands of ammo differently. CCI Stingers seem to be the most accurate in all of the guns tested? Remington Golden Bullet HPs Value Pack shot very consistantly, also. The CCI CBs shorts I keep around for cats and such definately aren't very accurate and I won't shoot anything with them again

I recently got Paco's Accurizer. Since then, every brand groups very well and standard ammo is particularly effective on small game.

My single six really likes Velocitors.
I haven't tried much else since I tried the Velocitors a few years ago.

Oh, I have tried a couple of boxes of 22 mag with the other cyl. Waste of time.

I bulk feed my .22's - shooting lots of ammo through them, especially now with the kids. Tend to buy what's on sale and buy a lot of it. Mostly Winchester Wildcats. I've found they tend to be more reliable (fewer dudes) and more consistent/accurate than the bulk Remington stuff.

I've had just the opposite result. The CCI MiniMags were the most accurate of several brands I've tried.l I need to get one of Paco's Accurizers too.

The Accurizer does two thing, it resizes the bullet and reshapes the nose.

For my 39A I use the .224 side. For a 10/22 the .223 side seem to be more accurate.

I like the Scorpion nose, but the dished wadcutter works great on paper and small animals and is very accurate.

I just spend 1/2 hour preparing 100-200 round before going shooting.

A few more questions.

1. What ammo. brand and bullet type do you use the most with this device?

2. How do you know how hard to hit the resizing pin with the mallet?

3. What keeps the bullet from being pushed into the shell?

I just filled out an order form and am about ready to write the check
for the $53.00 Acuâ€™rzr. (just want a little more info. yet on these things)

I did pull a bullet and pushed it through the barrel to send along
with the order form to get the right size as Paco suggests.

Do you guys think itâ€™s okay to tape the bullet to the order form and send it in a regular envelope to Paco? Or do you think the Post Office will have a baby over this?

I use mostly the bulk Federal stuff from WalMart. (It's
the only thing I buy from them anymore.) All of my guns
like it, and it's accurate enough in my old Ruger at 50 feet to
shoot bullseye. It's not as accurate in my Heritage 22 revolver,
but that could be me or the gun. I've also had good luck
with the CCI 40 grain stuff, but it's more expensive.

These are just my opinions........

I shoot a lot of rimfire, competitively and for fun. After a while you can start "hearing" the consistency, of manufacture. MiniMags, for the money, is the most consisntent and clean all around general use ammo I have found. Remington ammo seems to be the most inconsistent and extremely dirty. I try to avoid it at all cost. I use Wolf Match Target, which is the same as SK Standard Plus, for match use and old, standard velocity only, rimfires. This stuff rarely has a flyer, the majority of the rounds weigh the same, and the rim thickness is consistent. It's up to $45-$50 per brick now, but it will produce real tight groups out of most firearms.

Don't forget to try the Aguila subsonic, which has a 60 grain bullet, the only thing I've found with that heavy bullet.

I used a box once and it was quite accurate. I'm going to try it out for silhouette now because we have windy conditions where I shoot.

I've been using CCI Blazer, the most accurate in my gun, cheapest and easily available. Not a bad choice, but I did get a fair amount of jams which I think is due to expanded cases from the occaisional hottie. Federal did that to me too.

+1 on the Aquila Standard Velocity (Aquila Super Extra). Early testing indicates that it shoots as well as the discontinued PMC Scoremaster which was also made by Aquila.

The lot of PMC Scoremaster that I shot would shoot as good as the lot of Wolf Target I had.
