Hobie I want to be in Green

Post by El Chivo »

Well certain people now have their names in green and I am green with envy. How do I get to be in green?

Are you sure? Several people who are online right now are still in black. At this time you aren't online and are still green.

Of course, I don't want a free ride. If it's a matter of post count I will earn my way.

Sorry for the typo, it is "hoi polloi". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoi_polloi

BTW, this was meant as a joke. Apparently some of you couldn't take it as one.

Hobie,

Perhaps some of us do not like being considered as second class members of the forum. We used to be a family here, but now it seems there is is a caste system developing and that is not appreciated.

I made a comment earlier and deleted it as the only other person that I ever heard use that phrase was my mother, and the way she used it was even more derogatory than what the encyclopedia definition is. I deleted it because your use wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

Joe, with all due respect, there is no cast system developing. Hobie has been putting up with pulling 95% or more of the public moderation/administration duties for years now. All we've done is ask a few of the guys to help carry out trash.

Now, in a long standing forum there are guaranteed to be differences of opinion, personality conflicts and general purpose friction. Such is life. None of the moderators or administrators are perfect people, but we're going to do the best we can to keep this "a high class place". Hobie needs help and I'm short on time, so we took some of the "hoi polloi" and painted bullseyes on their chests as official uniforms and set the poor guys in the way of becoming targets and objects of scorn from those who don't stop to think what it takes to keep a place on today's internet a civil place. And they stepped up and will do the best job they can. I, for one, am grateful to them for being willing to take on the task. Honestly, no one could pay enough to make moderating a job worth having. Those of us who do it do so for the love of the sport/hobby/mental illness that the forum represents and the desire to see the place kept orderly.

Thank you for deleting whatever post you realized you shouldn't have made. If we all self police then the moderators can get by with just wearing the silly uniform instead of actually having to do anything. THAT would be really nifty!

Well Mod71 - so far it is only a badge, no bullets and no gun. :) But if any are willing to help maybe should turn in an offer to the Admins. This was more or less a would you be willing to help. Don't know how many they figure are wanted or needed, probably depends on how things work out and who will end up putting in what time.

Well now let's see, will we have to go to Moderator Academy? Pretty sure the decoder rings and wrist radios are in the mail. :) Key to the executive bathroom, reserved parking - preferred tables in the lunch room? Do we have to be moderate or can we still throw the linguini on the wall in the politics section??? I was going to see if I could apply for Special Assistant to Sixgun. :)

Well now Ambracol already sent me to clean up a mess I made, I think. This could be tricky being me and doing this :? Maybe there is an orange badge for Agitator rather than Moderator. But that politics section is somewhat of a free for all where everyone thinks they are right and no one else does. You pretty much deserve what you get if you participate there.

Now Griff, you know I had to go back to the office. I wouldn't just jump ship on you, duty and all. You understand.

I think this Moderator idea is great. Hobie can use the help.

As long as they don't make the guy that out and out lied about the dual Ruger 10-22 setup being illegal in CA (you know who you are) a moderator, I'm good with whoever (or is it whomever) is selected as a moderator.

Every other forum I belong to has moderators. It's just something that is needed on a forum this size.

At one point the 'hoi polloi' saw the Sturmabteilung as a good thing.

Now that the forum has chosen this road to travel, I'm sure that the members will just follow the path.

You fellows may want to know I have been chastised by the head admin for overly aggressive political response with embedded ad hominem attack. But Griff, that was before I knew the whole green thing had taken place. So I guess you are right - might have to straighten up.

I think it's great...Hobie deserves the help and all are respected members of the forum.

I only have one request...can we please do something about the color? It is too bright and seems to be all I see when I read someone's post. Maybe a toned down blue, or even a deeper green, like a forest green. Just something a lot more subtle (...that might also get at the "caste" comments).
