CLC American Holley grips, update.

Post by J Miller »

Back in December of 2006 I received a set of slightly yellowed American Holley grips from CLC Custom Grips.
Image
The sunlight actually made them look whiter than they really were.

The way Cary Chapman makes them I was wondering if they would ever “age”. Well, up until two years ago they pretty much looked like this:

The last time I went shooting was April of ’11. I cleaned the Blackhawk and put it away. Recently I decided to get them out and check them. I was amazed at what I found. Not sure what has caused this, but the grips have aged nicely:

I really like them like this. They look like they match the pistol now.

Ollogger,
I got it 9-97. Baring circumstances beyond my control, this is one I'm keeping till I take the big dirt nap. Even then I might just take it with me.

Well send them back - no reason to put up with that yellowing :D :D :D

This Genuine Plastic better not do that - course this is 38 years now on these.

Love my BearPaw Holly grips! I probably should take some mild detergent and even out the yellowing - this came from shooting - the center darkness is from perspiration at contact.

John,
Those look great. I'd not clean them at all. They look like they are supposed to to my eyes.

Yep, that's what I'm saying. No outdoor ranges near to me that don't cost a fortune, and I'm sick to death of indoor ranges. I always come home with my sinuses inflamed, and end up sneezing black snot. So .... I guess I just gave up.

Hey, are there any club type ranges near you Joe or do they all charge every visit? What's your closest range?
Cheers,
Oly

I have two indoor ranges close to me. One outdoor range that at the time I got the info several years ago charged $150.00 per year membership and required someone to sponsor you in is fairly close. The money has always been hard to come by, but a sponsor even harder.

The other outdoor range I was using is nearly 50 miles from me and when business dropped off a couple years ago he fenced off the range from the 50 yd point back to the benches and put his horses there. What good is shooting full sized rifles outdoors at only 50 yds?

Gun clubs and ranges around here also have a tendency to not have contact info available to anyone but members. So you can't just call them and get info like you can the Ben Avery Range north of Phx.

The grips, and the gun, look great, Joe!

That Blackhawk looks to be in excellent shape, by the way!

Those are very nice. I never knew Holly looked like that until a buddy of mine showed me a set of grips several years ago. So....................2 years ago I did a reshaping of a holly tree out front and saved some real thick parts and sawed 'em into blocks for just an occasion. So...........20 minutes ago I go a look for them so I can take a pic and nowhere to be found. Probably went up in ash in the wood stove during a brain fanny burp.----------------6

Sixgun,
Either that or you put it someplace safe so you wouldn't lose it. BTDT :?

I'd really like to find a source of one piece or a kit from American Holley for IJ. I think he'd look just cool with a set of those grips.

Well I tell you what, find a sponsor or get around that stupid rule (all it will take is some charm) and I've got the yearly fee for you. I bet I can get folks here to help me with it (subtle hint), but even if not I'll get it for you.

Times are tough but a man with as many gun skills as you have needs to shoot. GET OUT THERE - I've got your six.

Oly,

We are doing everything we can to get out of IL. I don't want to invest in anything here now. It's over for me here. I will get out of this place some how.
