Mosin-Nagant
So My BIL calls the other day and asks how old a Gun has to be that U don't have to go to a Dealer ? HUH ? How old does a Gun have to be that U don't have to go to a Dealer. I said "Rifle or Handgun"? He said Rifle to which I replied 50 years old,He said "U gonna be home"? "Yes" - Iv'e got something I want to give U.
So He comes over in about 20 minutes with this Mosin-Nagant. He said that I am always giving Him stuff so He wanted to give Me something. He has had this for about 5 or 6 years and He I afraid it is going to get stolen and He knows That I like Guns So here. He had 2 and one actually did get stolen so I have 2 of everything except Bayonet. I got 2 ammo pouches 2 of everything that CIA sends with these rifles. I got 2 boxes of 7.62x54r soft point ammo and about a box of fmj.
I have noticed that some of the Guys on here like these rifles and it is only fitting that a Member post Pics and story of any and all acquisitions. So this is My new Mosin-Nagant 91/30 I think.
Here is a couple pics.

As far as I know, Any firearm manufactured after 1898 is subject to firearms transfer law. 1898 firearms and before are considered antiques and are not subject to firearms transfer law. In California Antique handguns that can utilize fixed ammo are a different story..

Re: Mosin-Nagant
I thought that was true once upon a time - perhaps around 1948... Maybe California's laws are more permissive than other places (but I'd be surprised); I think 1898 is the cutoff year.pwl44m wrote:So My BIL calls the other day and asks how old a Gun has to be that U don't have to go to a Dealer ? Calif person to person, no dealer on rifles over 50 years old. Handguns sans BP need to get the state involved.

Folk in Dutch country here in MI say that it's bad luck to put a rifle on a bed.
But, maybe that's a couch.
I was shooting a Mosin on M day, & was punching thru & thru holes in the steel targets.
Bought a $10 rubber butt plate from Amazon. Really tames the recoil but looks like do do.

@2571, whew U had Me worried, that is in fact a couch with a Navajo type blanket on it. After I posted the pics I thought those sure don't go together. I did however take pics of My M1 carbine on the bed. Guess it is a good thing I aint Dutch.

Yes, but Federal Law says 1898 - which means the private transfer's OK in the PRC (intrastate), but not interstate.
BTW - If anyone's interested, here's how to convert a Mosin to .45-70:

Re: Mosin-Nagant
To adjust the front sight for windage on a 91/30 Mosin you need an LT-2 sight adjuster.

Re: Mosin-Nagant
My son has one in the 91/30. I have shot it once or twice. Boy! talk about one accurate rifle! He bought it with the tool pouch about five years ago at gunshow for $90.00. He loves the big bang guns. The only thing i see wrong with it is the bolt gets a bit hard to cycle after the rifle has been shot about ten rounds in a row and everything heats up, they are famous for it. He just bought an ak47 before the big hoopla over over black guns got started.

I fired this one or the one that got stolen about 5 years ago when He bought them. I think He paid $79 at Big 5. From what I remember I shot it very well but My BIL pulls all His shots even His Air Rifle.

Re: Mosin-Nagant
Mosin Nagants are great rifles! You can get good ammo from http://www.aimsurplus.com among other places. The milsurp ammo is still relatively inexpensive. A fact, along with the low cost of the rifles that makes them attractive to preppers who have limited budgets...

Cool. When do you Californians have to register/get licensed to buy ammo?

Last Year if they had it their way. I don't think this is going to just be a Ca. thing but then again I don't think it is even going to be a thing at all. U would think My HSC would suffice but where would the extra revenue be in that.Hobie wrote:Cool. When do you Californians have to register/get licensed to buy ammo?
