Fear not! That little owie can be very easily removed. The nose-cap is soft pewter, just give the scar a light sanding with very fine paper, then polish with fine steel wool. It worked for a similar blemish on my Shiloh.

That is clearly ruined. I'll help your grief by taking the broken rifle off your hands so you can order a new one. I love the look of that heavy barrel and the quality of te blue as well.

I feel your pain but wanting to wear it out is an outstanding goal. Eventually almost all rifles should enter the working rifle category.

I always like to see, "lots of honest wear but pristine bore and hits what you aim at".

Nice rifle Blaine but I don't think you can wear a Sharps out. I've been trying to wear mine out for a while now with no luck. I may go broke tryin' though.

I have only worn out a second hand .22lr that had a lot of wear on it before I got it. That Sharps probably would last a lot longer than a cheap .22lr rifle. That cheap .22 had at least 40 thousand rounds through it, and with Paco's Acr'zr it still shoots good. Are you going to live long enough to wear out that Sharps?

Actually that's not far wrong. I bought rifles from a South African gent who had been through a lot of hunting and shooting in Africa as well as here. One of the stories he had was about a guy who shot a lion, but didn't kill it. The lion rushed the guy and knocked the rifle out of his hands, and proceeded to attack and bite the rifle, while the guy just walked away.

This is why I am beginning to think that a spear is a good backup. Tending to more paleo thinking these days.

I made a set of three throwing darts from snap tie remnants....I can't find them after a couple moves... :( Nicely shaped spear heads with a barb....they would have been excellent at the end of a small spear....

Two things:
1. The gun will obviously shoot left now that it is damaged, so it needs to find a good home with a left handed shooter who knows about these things. Please PM me and I will give you the mailing instructions.

2. If you hadn't pointed out the "ding" no one would have noticed. I've had new guns from the factory come with more scratches than that. Besides, a tool needs a blemish or two to work properly. Now you can relax and tell the stories. :D :o :(
