OK, new post on recent projects.
Here's some project recently completed.
This Rossi RanchHand converted to MaresLeg is an older project done for DPris Denis Prisbrey. Denis did an article on it for the Guns of the Old West magazine.
Since that came out I have had several folk send RanchHands for this conversion.
This feller wanted a more original look. more antiqued.
This feller wanted something a bit more flashy. Tu-tone Blue with nickel accents
I'm almost done with these two. They were both blue gun but now have Rogard's NP3+.
Notice the knurled muzzle caps. These will get suppressors too.
The Ranch Hands and the suppressed carbines got me to thinking on a project for myself. I'm thinking of building an SBR using a RanchHand with a carbine stock added and thread it for a suppressor. That would make it a carbine length gun.
Here's an old 92 that was a real rust bucket. This was a family gun so he wanted it up and running so he could use it for CAS.
It was heavily pitted even after some draw filing but the bore was good. To cover the pits we decided on a flat dark blue then add the nickel accents.

That must be satisfying to be able to produce such beautiful AND functional work.

Re: OK, new post on recent projects.
Awesome!
I must have missed the Guns of Old West article ---- I used to read the mag religiously, but then every issue seemed to have articles on different (but very similar) SAA clones, and a Mare's Leg variation of some sort ---- so I got bored --- really enjoyed the articles on the western movie actors and what happened to them, etc.
Maybe I should resume reading again ---- now i'm similarly getting bored in the same way with off-road motorcycle and bicycle stuff (my life goes in cycles )
----- beautiful stuff Steve -- makes me want a Mares Leg just so you can breathe on it a bit -- tricked out range toy to be sure! -- I can think of a lot of practical applications for a silenced '92 also --- with degenerative hearing in my left ear, I need to preserve all that I have left

Thanks for all the kind words.
I kinda like the Tu-Tone look.
This one is mine. It started as an all blue 45lc and is now a 454 Casull.

The owner has the cans so I haven't held them with it on the gun. Just seems it will be a bit long over all. That's why I'm leaning toward the SBR-ed RanchHand with a can and shoulder stock. that 12" barrel with a can about 6 to 8" should be just about right.

Also, what is Tu-Tone blue? Is it a type of bluing or is the nickel highlights?

I started with an all blue gun then nickel plated the various parts for the Tu-Tone effect.FatJackDurham wrote:Also, what is Tu-Tone blue? Is it a type of bluing or is the nickel highlights?

I do like the looks of that one Steve! Remember these .357 two tones you did for me a long time back? Beautiful pair.

How clever. Threading holes to store your peep sights. Fantastic.
That revolver looks great. I really like that soft grey blue finish.

Re: OK, new post on recent projects.
Actually, I should have been more clear. Steve ordered the guns for me in bright Stainless. He bead blasted the parts that look dull, and polished the parts that are shiny, for lack of a better way to explain it. He also tuned and slicked both of them. Unfortunately, I had to sell the Ruger at one point, but the Trapper is still one of my favorite guns and will never leave my family.FatJackDurham wrote:How clever. That's some quality work, I'm impressed.
Do you do your own nickel plating? The 2 tone look always captured my eye ever since Don Johnson used that 2 tone Bren ten in Miami Vice.----------6

Some of those guns actually have polished stainless parts. But, the ones that have nickeled part were done by Ford's Custom Gun Refinishing down in Florida.

Functional guns that are nice to look at. Kind of like seeing a clean 4x4 pickup on a ranch. Nice to look at, and you know it can do the work.

Re: OK, new post on recent projects.
I like the two tone 92 but would have wanted the chrome to have been flat like the blueing. I really like the blued and bead blasted stainless guns I've seen. But that's just me and what do I know. Really nice craftsmanship on all the guns Steve thanks for showing.
