You know, I look for things like that in old westerns after I saw power transmission line in the background of one. You might slip a small power pole by as a telegraph line, but not the big stuff.

I wondered when after Sept 11 (in 2001) the skies were airplane-free and zero jet-trails, if the 'movie' people would take advantage of that and get lots of sky-shots for use in movies like old westerns and so on, but I suppose these days they just 'photoshop' them out of the videos when needed.

I was watching a show that was set in the 1800's in the southern US. As the kid walked along, I saw a house through the trees that was a modern ranch style home.
You ever notice that in The Man From Snowy River, in some of the shots when the horses are running by, there are two men riding a couple of the horses in among the herd.

I remember going to see "Lonely Are The Brave" and Kirk Douglas was lying down with his head resting on his saddle when Jet planes flew over, it was only then that I realised the movie was set in the 1960s and not the 1860s..

A Roman soldier with a wrist watch can be spotted in historical flicks.

Maybe that's the Western Union R&D office...
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

I think that Bush would have had any caucasian with a camera 'disappeared'.

Multi wire telegraph lines were trans continental by 1870, power generation, transmission, and use started spreading out in the early 1880s.

That looks like a TV antenna to me.
IIRC they only had B&W TV in the 1870`s.

I saw jerod Barkley ( big valley) shooting a marlin 336 in several episodes. And they think we re not paying attention.

Re: See Anything Strange In This Old Cowboy Movie Shot??
The 336 was often used in the Big Valley series IIRC. Even if it were a Marlin 1894 it would have been made after the presumed time period of the series.
Re: See Anything Strange In This Old Cowboy Movie Shot??
Exactly. It's so easy now to just post-process the offending bits out that they pretty much shoot where they want and fix it later. Of course it's budget dependant - all it takes is money to fix it.AJMD429 wrote:I wondered when after Sept 11 (in 2001) the skies were airplane-free and zero jet-trails, if the 'movie' people would take advantage of that and get lots of sky-shots for use in movies like old westerns and so on, but I suppose these days they just 'photoshop' them out of the videos when needed.

In the original High Noon, the sheriff runs behind some buildings. Looks just like a window air conditioner on a house. Ran it by several times and still get the same impression.

Re: See Anything Strange In This Old Cowboy Movie Shot??
What a coincidence. I watched that movie yesterday and when the marshal is walking to meet the bad guys, the scene cut to a view of the town and there are two telephone poles. I thought maybe telegraph lines but they were much larger and kind of far away to be part of the set. Still a good movie.Nazgul wrote:In the original High Noon, the sheriff runs behind some buildings. Looks just like a window air conditioner on a house. It was pointed out to me that in the movie Ben Hur, Charlton Heston was in his chariot and in the background was a little foreign car.--------6
