New Purchase

Post by TheWoodCrafter »

I just picked up a new carbine.

It is a U.S. Border Patrol M94 commemorative.
Brand new, looks great.

I decided not to shoot it buy hang it up on display.
Just to nice and rare to shoot.

Welcome to the forum, and you get a gold-star since your first post contained a PHOTO. 8)

Personally, I feel sorry for 'commemorative' guns and such - they got built and made with special care, as a GUN, only to get hung on a wall or stuck in a safe, and never used as a respectable gun should be used. I guess the 'collector value' of anything I own will be nil for my grandkids to fight over, though... :D

I am Southern California.
I know, not the most gun-friendly state.
I followed a link somewhere and found you guys.
Sure glad I did.

I started using the name after I opened my cabinet shop that I owned for about 8 years, The WoodCrafting Company.
We made a lot more than cabinets.
I just kept using the name.
It even got to a point that my wife started calling me Woody.

Here is the shooter I bought.

Made in 1971 UN-FIRED.
Because of the stock, I got a really good deal.

NICE.
Since nobody else has piped up and said they have one of those, maybe you have a rare one. In which case you may be right in not shooting it.
Unfortunately many of the commemorative rifles don't appear to be appreciating in value at any kind of noticeable rate. Even here in Oz where guns fetch a much higher price than over there, we can buy some of the commemorative guns for about the same as a new plain Jane gun.

In Tom Trolards first book, Winchester Commemoratives, it says there where only 1000 of these made.
So I think I should preserve it.
I have seen one being offered for twice what I paid. Who knows if it sold.
Hopefully it is worth more over the next few years.

Shooting a "commemorative" or "classic"/antique gun has virtually ZERO effect on its value. Heck, the gun was shot at least once before it left the factory.

What affects the value is wear & tear/damage. So, protect the Box, hang-tag and Paper. Don't drop it... or take it hunting... but there is no harm in showing it off at a Range.

I like it! A Border PAtrol commemorative makes sense in SoCal, AZ or NM for sure , TX too

The "shooter" looks pretty nice too -- someone must have left it sitting in a closet and the carpet got damp

Speaking of Border PAtrol --- why do they get all the action in the Southwest, --- surely it must be just as harrowing a profession keeping our neighbor's from the Great White North out of the country, no?
I can see the White/Green SUV's springing into action when it hears rumors of a border crossing with contraband , -- then when they get there it is just a good natured Canuck with a 6 pack of Molsons tucked under an arm -- oh, and he was going back, not coming in

I am not so sure that is entirely universal.
I would pay more for a "un-fired" gun verse one that has been fired.
I guess because I have that choice and I can.
Un-fired usually means a 99% condition gun.
You are right about condition is the most important thing.
Some of those sellers on Gunbroker are advertising them as "Un-Levered".
Still has the factory zip tie on the lever. That may be a little over the top.
But it sure looks like un-fired commands a higher price.
