Winchester "not-so-black" Black Shadow

Post by Noah Zark »

It's been since forever that I've bought or traded into a new firearm because I have a REALLY short Short List and I'm getting to the age when I need to simplify things. But I couldn't pass up this 30-30 Winchester Black Shadow Carbine in Brushed Chrome finish recently:

And here it is with it's longer all-black brother, also 30-30:

I got the Brushed Chrome Black Shadow, the box, all the papers, cable lock, and some little metal thing in a tiny ziploc bag for $425. Seemed like a no-brainer.

If it shoots as accurately as the blued Black Shadow rifle, it's a definite keeper. Yeah, I hate the pushbutton safety, but what they miss in looks is made up for in accuracy, at least in the case of the all-black one. Can't wait to shoot the blingy one.

Wow! That is a very nice looking very different approach to the 94 and it has the coveted cross bolt safety :) congrats.

COOL !! I have never seen one in this area, chrome or blued.
I assume the little metal thing is a hammer extension for scope mounting.
Enjoy!

that was a GOOD price......the only one i ever saw like that, with brushed chrome finish, was on sale at LGS for 585$ but that had to be 12 years or more ago.

you really did well. i have often regretted not getting that one.

The Black Shadow guns are BTW, the exact same gun as the Timber Rifle, except for the synthetic stock vs the walnut on the TR.
These are VERY under-rated 1894 guns IMO. Think: a model 64 with modern metallurgy. I do not lose sleep over the cross-bolt safety.
I especially like the "swollen" fore end of the BS guns, it has just the right fatness for my paws.

Nice pair! Now go get some venison!

Exactly what I consider the Black Shadow and Timber Rifle 94s to be -- a poor man's Model 64.

While I don't like the aesthetics of the pushbutton safety on the Winchester 94 and the Marlin leverguns, I do like its intrinsically safe practicality when cycling the action to unload.

Thanks for all the comments!
