price check 03A3 rifle
Can anyone give me a ballpark value for a Remington made 03A3 rifle?
It is a former drill rifle action with all new parts except the receiver.
TIA,
Jack

Check out James River Armory. They build them and sell them on their site. They quite possibly built yours.

Thanks Ed,
They certainly are proud of their guns....
I am putting mine together from a barreled action.
I will have a bit more than $400 tied up in parts, so it looks like I didn't do too bad.

For a non collectable, but a good shooting specimen that looks good, its still worth 5.---------------Sixgun
Smith Corona One of the first 5000 made with the 6 groove High Standard barrel. I have close to 2,000 out of this one with 98% being cast at 1800.......very smooth barrel condition.

Re: price check 03A3 rifle
Sounds like a good deal. Complete 03A3s are going for $5-600 around here.
My grandfather paid $10.00 plus 4.95 shipping for this one in 1962.
Yeah, I love to brag!

That's a nice one, JB.
Reminds me that I need to scout up a correct sling.
Were the 03s issued with a cleaning rod or just the pull through?

No. In fact, I know where you can buy Mosin 91/30s by the sealed arsenal storage case... (20 rifles per case)

NO! I'm an American, by way of NZ, of Anglo-Saxon heritage... I WILL not be swayed by cheap prices to foreign stuff... unless it's clearly better quality and also happens to be chambered in .30-06!!!Old Ironsights wrote:No. In fact, I know where you can buy Mosin 91/30s by the sealed arsenal storage case... Re: price check 03A3 rifle
If you think the 03A3 is a cool piece. How about an original Springfield Krag ?Griff wrote:I fired an '03A3 for the first time this past weekend... now I've been looking for one!!! Doesn't this EVER stop?
Several Years ago I bought a 1894 Krag with a four digit serial number, made in 1895. Some parts were missing and I am bringing the Old Girl back to it's original self.
The bore is good and tomorrow is the day we go to the range for a test load session.

Be careful with those early Krags. They are known for having cracked lugs. I keep mine running at medium 30-30 pressures.----6Lefty Dude wrote:

Re: price check 03A3 rifle
sixgun... I have both a Remington and a Smith-Corona 03A3 and if forced to choose, I would keep the S-C. High Standard was making spare 03 barrels and was the original contractor for the 03A3. Lacking the capacity needed, H-S pulled Smith Corona in on the contract. H-S continued to make the barrels even though they were marked S-C. They are very good barrels. S-C marked barrels are 4 groove and they never made any 2 groove barrels as did Remington.
Re: price check 03A3 rifle
I've heard that two groove barrels can be very accurate with cast bullets.
I'm hoping so.

Re: price check 03A3 rifle
I shoot only Lead in the "ol Girl". Like a 200GC with 16 grs. of 2400 or 19 grs. of SR4759. Nice mild loads, no jacketed at all. I use 303 sized lead bullets, the bore slugs at .3115".Sixgun wrote:Be careful with those early Krags. They are known for having cracked lugs. The 19 gr. load was shooting clover leafs and one hole groups at 50 yards. When out next it will be 100 & 200 yards. I replaced the rear sight (1896) with a 1902 sight, so the range trip was to check the sights and do windage adjustments at 50 yards. The 1902 sight was the best and last sight modification they did on the Krag prior to the 1903 Springfield.
BTW; the above loads are also used and are very accurate for 30-06 lead loads for the 03 & 03A3. When I had my Winchester 30-40 Carbine made in 1914, it liked 20 gr's of SR4759 and a 175GC Lyman lead bullet.
