Re: ammo question
Remington and Winchester are two of several makers of 30/30 ammo. Same ammo, different makers name on the box. You will find the same thing for almost all ammo, more than one maker of the same caliber.

Reckon it's kinda like using Maxwell House in your coffee pot instead of Folgers.

Re: ammo question
As an aside and for those Not-In-The-Know, there also is a .30 Remington.
However, the .30 Remington will not interchange with a .30-30 Winchester.
The .30 Remington, a rimless cartridge, was designed for the old Model 8 and 81 Remington semi auto rifle. Its ballistics are comparable to the .30-30 Winchester.
Same with the .32 Remington, another Model 8 and 81 rimless cartridge that will not interchange with the .32 Special. Both have similar ballistics

Re: ammo question
Yep, along with being able to use Winchester and Remington ammo in each others guns, you can use Federal ammo in them as well as Marlins, Mossbergs, Rossis and Savages.
As long as the caliber marking is the same as is marked on your firearm, they are interchangeable.

Re: ammo question
The .30-30 is also known as the .30 W.C.F. 1886.
Re: ammo question
So is a .307 a rimmed version of .308? I think the .307 is classified as semi-rimmed. I've heard that you can shoot .308 in .307 rifles, but not the other way - anyone brave enough to try it?

Re: ammo question
You've got it: if your extracter grabs the rimless OK (most of them will) my understanding is that you can use the 308 brass. However the .308 is loaded to higher pressure levels than is the .307 because the leverguns are not designed for 55 to 60K pressures as are rifles designed to handle .308. So you might want to avoid factory-level pressures and load down to .307 levels even if using the very available and much cheaper .308 brass. I personally don't have a .307 yet, but if (when) I do acquire one I'm sure I'll be feeding it with the .308 brass I have piles of...Snaketail wrote:So is a .307 a rimmed version of .308? Re: ammo question
If I remember correctly you can chamber a .25, .30 or .32 rimless Remington in a 25/35, 30/30 or .32 Special Winchester and fire it...only problem it wont extract as the Remington ammo is rimless rather than rimmed. Wont be a problem nowadays as the Remington calibers are, for all practical purposes, impossible to obtain.Ray Newman wrote:As an aside and for those Not-In-The-Know, there also is a .30 Remington.
