Re: Pearl Harbor
Two fold memory for me.
1. Pearl Harbor Day
2. My Dad's birth date was December 7, 1912. He would have been 101 years old today.

Re: Pearl Harbor
Your dad was celebrating his 50th the day I was born. Must have been a great guy.
Kind regards,

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but 99% of "Americans" have NO CLUE what 'Pearl Harbor' was all about, much less able to think about the 'Did we allow it to happen so we could sway public opinion' issue.
99% of our fellow citizens are only concerned with where to get their welfare checks, union benefits, or other handouts...

wasn't that the one with Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett? And they flew around in planes or something?

Re: Pearl Harbor
Regardless of the circumstances, which unlike the current crop cowards, I cannot believe that any politcian or public servant of the day would have knowingly sacrificed American servicemen to justify evtering the war.
But, I can only pray for those men lost that day, and their famlies. And pray that this current crop of cowards have no opportunity to let it (our troops caught unaware of an impending attack), happen again.

Re: Pearl Harbor
It is well and good and proper to remember the dead, the wounded, and the many families torn apart, but like the Holocaust, as a society we do tend to have a way of saying "never again", without actions to back up those words.
It does no good to wave flags and have ceremonies to 'honor the dead', if we as a society have become so oblivious to political reality that it becomes irrelevant; if anything, that kind of behavior is disrespectful to those who died trying to preserve freedom. We need to spend more time assuring that the kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, neighbor's kids, and everyone else we talk to, learn to appreciate the freedom those men and women and many others have died to preserve.

Re: Pearl Harbor
There used to be an old fellow that lived near me named Curtis. Curtis was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He hated anything and everything made in Japan. I don't remember which ship he was on, but he was only 17 at the time. Since he was the "kid" on the ship he had quite a few shipmates who had treated him like he was their own kid so when they were killed he took it very hard.
I think about Curtis every Dec. 7th.

G_d rest all of those brave and innocent souls.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
