"You might be a gun nut" self deprecating gun tale

Post by cas »

Ok.. I've been stuck home with the flu all week. I can't sleep anymore, but I'm not well enough to actually do anything. So I figured Id shed some levity on the forum at my own expense. If you've heard it before then forgive me.

My "I might have a gun problem" moment.

It was a Saturday morning about two summers ago, I got up early because I had a ball game that morning. I went down in the basement because my "uniform" (of sorts) was hanging on the clothes line. I went over by the washer and line, when saw the dehumidifier was full. I pulled the catch basin out of it and dumped it in the washing machine. I took some clothes out of the laundry bin (you know the big pile on the floor) and threw them in the washer as well. I stripped off whatever it was I was wearing and threw that in too. Added soap and started a load of wash.

Then I remembered the other dehumidifier in my reloading room. It's on the other side of the basement.. so I check and it was full as well. I take it, and dump it in the washing machine too. I then went back to the reloading room and but the basin back in the machine.

In the reloading room, hanging over the dehumidifier is an M1 Garand stock that I'd been reworking. I'd stripped it, steamed out the majority of the dents, and had slowly been giving it hand rubbed coats of Tung oil over the last week. Out of curiosity I check to see if it was dry. It was. Hmmm...

I looked at the clock and saw I still had almost an hour before I needed to leave for the game. I figured I had plenty of time to give the stock another coat of Tung oil, which I proceeded to do. And that's when it happened. Right in the middle of it, I had my "gun problem epiphany."

It was almost like an out of body experience really. I actually saw myself from up above and slightly askew. What I saw was... I saw myself... standing in my basement, totally naked, rubbing oil into a rifle stock with my bare hands.

OMG!

I was kinda shook up by the whole thing really. I laughed afterwards, and still do.

But something about the whole thing still bothers me deeply.

The only problem I see is someone who professes to be a gun nut wasting time playing ball when there are more important things that need doing.

Like maybe cleaning all those primer pockets, or changing the media in your case tumbler or...

I am sure glad my dog can not talk, some of the stuff she has seen me do; would surely get me committed.
