I always wear a "US Air Force" hat of some sort, I have several different. Surprises me sometimes to get a veteran's discount without even asking, got 10% off at Dennys yesterday morning and didn't even realize it until I paid and got the receipt back. Home Depot same way.

Another senior discount tip -- if any establishment offers an AARP discount and you are not a member, ask "Do you mean I am required to belong to a particular political action group to get a senior-citizen discount? Is this an age-based discount, or politically-based?" So far, it has never failed -- I get the discount.

Motel 6 proudly displays their AARP discount sign, but, will not budge from the requirement.....No military discount, either. The reason I go there is that they always allow dogs....

If you're on the road, Petro and TravelCenters of America (TA) give 10% for 55+. Also, TAs offer second helpings of the entres if there is no buffet avail. The second helping can be all or part of the meal.

I will NOT be joining AARP...a group that thinks it's in the best interest of their membership that they all be unarmed

Went to see "Lone Survivor" this past Saturday. Got there for the 1:05 pm matinee showing. Was somewhat embarrassed to ask for the senior discount off my ticket, as I think of myself as a pretty vigorous, cool old dude. Did so however, and saved 50 WHOLE CENTS off the regular price of $7.50! Dang, wasn't worth having to admit I'm a senior to the cute college coed in the ticket booth!
