I got one off of Pete44ru here not too long ago, and I think of it as my "Poor-man's Rimfire Schofield".

I put a 'peep' sight on mine and like it better than the 'factory' one...

Being a southpaw, I was attracted to the 999 early on. I bought two many years ago, and like a fool gave one to a cousin. Oh well, it does have a good home.

The 999 would likely be the last rimfire revolver I'd part with.

Cool gun.
Gave mine last year to daughter's BF.
Great gun once I loctited rear sight screw.
Otherwise from factory every three break opens she would loosen.
That fixed it.

Yep. That's why I replaced mine in the first place, and decided to experiment with a 'peep' sight, since I had one on a Redhawk, and absolutely loved it.

Ya  That sucker loosened up quicker than after a nun having drunk a pint of 101 Turkey.

Hey Doc! Got a good one for ya!
Moving back up here it is going to be at least (A Year)before even accepting finger print applications for handgun CCW.(that back logged)
As such and having my good friend that held all my many handguns at his gun shop in Pa(he suddenly died)wife kept shop open a while but closed it.(had to do something)
I got rid of all my handguns. Even though I have finger prints on file(not for bad reasons)Must start anew at process.
So, see when I yap about the tiny Kel-Tec carbines for me you now see why?

Once CCW (NYS) is a done deal----we will just buy more! (oh what a list I have)even wife said ok!

The H&R 999 Sportsman top-break revolver...

One of my favorites -- as it was the 1st handgun I ever bought on my own!

Over the last 10 years -- after being without one for 25 or so years -- I have upgraded from starting with a beat-up one that was a project, to a not-too-bad one, to a very nice one, and then I lucked into a "like new in box" one at the local Cabela's -- with the box -- for just $175!

That was the 2nd-lowest priced one that I've bought, and it was almost mint... There was an insert from a 100-round pack of CCIs in the box, and I suspect that was all she ever fired. I really think the guy who priced it at Cabela's must have thought it was "obsolete" or something, as it would have sold for $500 or more on GunBroker. As it was, I got $375 on GB for the one that I'd only paid $245 for one year earlier. But this last one will be tough to beat, so I think she's my last.

Here's some H&R 999 Ads below, for those who really like the 999s!

I bought a new 4" 999 in 81 for the trap line.

Sight screws have never loosened.

In those days all I shot were the Fed Highpower 40 gr HP, averaged a box a day for ten to twelve weeks for 12 seasons.

Some day I will post a picture of the Holster, she is pretty rough, I would start the season with ten new pair of Levi's or Wranglers, by the end of Feb they would be rags from wading thru all the Catclaw and White thorn acacia so you can imagine what the holster looks like.

Dad bought a pair of them back in the 30"s IIRC and I still have them.
I like the grips on the old ones much better than the new.

I have an H&R Sportsman. Got it some years ago as a birthday present from my mom.
>It was made in 1933.
>It's finish is almost excellent.
>I've been cautioned to not use high velocity ammo in it due to potential wear problems. Since high velocity ammo was introduced in 1933 or so there's no way to tell if the pistol was upgraded for it when it was made.
>I to like the old wooden grips better than the newer ones.
>My rear sight screws are so tight I cannot loosen them. Thankfully the windage is on.
>The single action trigger pull is very good.
>The serrated trigger will cut your trigger finger after a few cylinders full fired double action. That pistol needs a smooth trigger.

It's one I will not part with.
