Need some help/advice with a S&W model 59
Recently got my hands on a S&W Model 59 in great condition, wonderful trigger!
However with regular Winchester factory loads it shoots about 8" high at 10 yards with the rear sight wound right down.
I have not been able to find a replacement rear sight.
Any help or advice gratefully accepted!!

No, very definitely not factory rears.
So if Bubba got in and did that, what else may have been done?
Just did a quick internet search, the orginal S&W ones are pricy, but there's plenty of aftermarket available.
My $00,000.02 worth, lose the rear adjustable and get a fixed. Once you get one in there you can shoot for sighting, then if you're off you do the maths to find the right height to get you there.
Hmmm. Went back, did another search, found this for twenty - thirty-some bucks

Hope Bubba didn't screw with the frame getting that other one in.
I like those old first and second gen Smiths.

move the gong back about 90 yards . . .

You'll never get it zeroed with that rear. Look how much higher it is than the front sight. I'd say someone had a broken rear sight, so slapped that one on just to trade it off.wecsoger wrote:No, very definitely not factory rears.

It definitely has not been Bubbad, the gun itself is in near perfect condition and that rear sight is not a cheap looking item and fits the frame perfectly!
Will report back post Numrich.

Replacement sight on way from Numrich, I had already tried the two S&W repair places in Canada and they could not help, never thought of Numrich, thanks again wecsoger

I live to serve.
That, and I'm home right now after a sinus operation; the boredom and the vicodin is really starting to get to me. (grin)
You're right on that sight, it does look aftermarket and expensive. Do a little internet searching to find what it is. Might then get some $$ off it on fleabay, or use as trade bait at the local gun shop.

That looks like a Millett rear sight, very high quality. It's supposed to be paired with a new front sight, which, on the model 59, IIRC, is staked in place. Staking a front sight was probably beyond tge skills of the previous owner.

The front sight is integral with the slide! If it could be removed I would have made a new higher one!CaptainFinn wrote:That looks like a Millett rear sight, very high quality.
