This is a video that will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. If you don't get that reaction you are dead...

Yep! At one time I had 5.88:1 gears with a L-88 (stock) in my '55... turning 11s at the track was no problem, even with my slow reaction times... but getting 4mpg wasn't quite so good! Went back to 4.11s and brought that back up into the 12mpg range if I kept it to 55 on the highway and my foot out of it on the street! Loved it when I rebuilt it and put in a LT-1 and 700R4, gets 20+ with ease now... and is still, or maybe even more fun to drive! I SHOULD take it out of storage one of these days!!! But, momma don't like cruisin' around much anymore... and it ain't much fun by myself. Go to someplace just to eat lunch and you get stopped by cops and while parked everyone has to paw all over it. I worry over door dings and every other little possible scrape...

Can't do 11s... though Max CAN produce a long 12 or slim 13 with even this old guy at the throttle...

NICE! Probably one of the best looking examples of what I think of as the best 2 years of the goat. I might lean a little toward the '67. Just as with the Chevelle, no door post... Tho' for the life of me, go figure I prefer a '55 post over the same year hardtop!

Love the setting for your pic!

I'm lucky. The Sinclair right across the alley from my back fence sells Straight Premium.

Keeps my 81 Yamaha happy, that.

Wow that is one beautiful GTO. in my favorite year. A friend on mine had a red one and I really liked it, but I was a Ford man and got a 66 Mercury Cyclone GT instead. I took the fastest ride in my life in that goat, near as we could figure about 146 mph.........not quite 6000 rpm with an Isky cam and 3.23 gears. Mercy, we went for 5 miles and the telephone poles looked like a picket fence, as they used to say!!! Got back to town and I just happened to look at the front tires and they ere about 2/3 bald. I'm lucky to be alive!!! :o :o

Nevada.

Twice a year they close down 90 miles of state highway and go fast. The Silver State Classic. They have different speed brackets, the objective being to stay as close to your bracket without going over for the entire 90 miles. The navigator helps with timing and speed coordination. Some do it solo. They also have some half miles and miles I believe.

200 mph. Best watched on full screen.

I like the 1937 Ford pickup. 180-200 mph

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fThF8a03wdg

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TINvQfXIpE

Theres one of it taking off from the starting point, its geared pretty tall, it about falls on its nose when starts. It runs quite a ways before shifting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DdrAKDReao

The Big Red Camaro is a 230 mph car, and Jim Perulta looks like he has a 240 mph car. The runs through The Narrows look interesting, winding road through canyons. Most are doing well over 100 mph I believe.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

Then I got married and replaced it with one of these (Datsun B210). :?

I love the goat and the rest of those cars,BUT the nicest car i have ever seen was at 16 and it was a 1966 chevelle ss hard top red on red with a 396 4 speed. keystone classics with the red line wide ovle tires. just like this black 1 for 80 grand. I let that car pass for 4
grand in 1969. like new too.

Malamute

loved the racing footage. I am familiar with that road, although in the 105 to 90 range.

shame about the k-i-a in the first race, maybe a nail?

I'll watch one race per night so I can stretch it out into a series.

thanks for the heads-up
