Prescott AZ gun shops / museums ???

Post by rbertalotto »

I'm going to Prescott AZ tomorrow and have two days to see stuff.

Any suggestions of Firearm, Cowboy, History related places and things to visit?

Thanks!

High Country Gun shop, Sharlott Hall Museum, Fort Whipple Museum located at the VA hospital. And then, there is the Town Square surrounded by Taverns and gift shops. Be sure and have a Craft Beer at the Prescott Brewing Company, also on the Square. Good food there too.
If you know some one that works for Ruger you might be able to get a Plant Tour. The Plant is located out by the Airport. The LCR & LCP are made in this Ruger Factory.
On the 4th of July Prescott turns crazy, lots of visitors for the Rodeo.
Have Fun, it is a great City.

Welcome to Prescott. Be sure to pronounce it like "press-kit" like the natives do. Prescott is probably the most gun friendly town in the country. There are more FFL holders within a five mile radius of down town than any other town in the country. There are 17.5 FFL holders per 100,000 population according to an article about Prescott in a past edition of Shotgun News.

Check out J&G Gun Sales at 440 Miller Valley Road ( just behind the post office); Bill's Trading Post, 318 White Spar Road ( say hi to Bill and Sherri, best prices in Arizona, not open on Mondays); Wells Sport Shop at 110 N. Summit Ave. ( very hard to find, ask at the second hand business at the curb). This is the shop of the late custom rifle maker Fred Wells. His widow Rachael and her sons run the shop. Rachael is a great engraver, she teaches same at the local community college, and stock finisher and checkerer. If you ask real nice, she might let you tour the shop and look at some of the rifles Fred had built and the old machinery.

Out in Chino Valley there is Mazy's Custom Gunsmithing, 396 W. Road 3 N.( about 10 miles North of town on Highway 89). He has a great selection of cigars too. Further North, near Paulden, you will find the famous Gunsite shooting school. Check out their website for directions. It is quite a way off the highway.

There are a lot of other small shops and pawn shops around town. Just ask around.

Have fun.

Thanks folks...I'm staying at the historic Hotel St Michaels. Fantastic hotel. Classis old "folding gate" elevator and this place is right out of history! Fantastic.

I drove up from Phoenix last night so nothing to see except an amazing sky!!!! Nothing like this back in New England!

Just saw the local weather report......56-71 degrees, 15-25% humidity, 5-10MPH winds ....FOR THE NEXT 5 DAYS!!!!

I could settle down here!!
