Morning Visitor
5:30AM, sitting outside on a fantastic morning, reading the paper and having my second cup of Joe.......Along comes this fellow and had his breakfast of dandelions.....I didn't realize woodchucks ate my weeds. He is more than welcome. It appears he lives under a shed I have in the yard. Hadn't seen him around until today

Re: Morning Visitor
I was sitting on the ground in my back yard triming the base of a tree when a groundhog walked around the tool shed and walked right up to me within about a foot and a half away I could have reached out and touched it but I didn't move and I didn't make a sound and he never realized I was there.
He just went on his merry way.

Re: Morning Visitor
One of these days that tool shed will just disappear into a hole in the ground that Mr. Groundhog has excavated under it.

A woodchuck would chuck all day long , if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Re: Morning Visitor
I used to not mind seeing the woodchucks eating the weeds and clover around here. Then one day our "vicious Akita " saw and chased one around the corner of the garage ( about 20' ). Evidently mr. chuck decided he could not make it to the safety of his den in time so he stopped , turned around , and stood up on his hind feet chomping his beaver like teeth. Said " vicious Akita " stopped , laid down so as to not be so imposing and started crawling towards what she thought was a new friend that wanted to meet and play with her
I now try to discourage them from getting too comfortable around here.

Re: Morning Visitor
Back in the day I would blast them on sight because of the holes and horses.
Move forward almost twenty years and a new place without the large animals I leave them be.
They're just Chuckin'.
They do seem to know better than to come inside the fence where the dogs can get to them.

I have a Mountain Cur that loves groundhogs. I've never had any problems with groundhogs since Hondo came home with me. Never seen him lose a fight with one and he'll dig them out if he can from there hole. They will ruin foundations if they aren't removed from they're holes.

A 220 conibear is real hard on ground hogs.
I have lived at my present location for 15 years, first 12 years never seen a groundhog on the property.
Over the last three years I have had to kill 12 at the barn, I snared the first two, one I got in a 155 conibear just for a experiment the rest in 220's.
Only one has showed up so far this year and the 155 got him.

Whistle pig, woodchuck, groundhog, it's all good eating. My wife cooked them for years until she saw one eating a dead bird. Fry the small ones, and parboil then roast the big ones, GOOD EATS.

Please send it over to my house. Only Italian people eat dandelions here.
Re: Morning Visitor
My Great Dane was a groundhog running down fool. He would grab and shake them, drop the dead whistle pig and catch another before they disappeared down their hole . That dog was an awesome sight hound.

I have one staying under the neighbors shed...about 200' from my little garden. whistle pigs love green beans. It prolly won't be long till He is in My back yard under My shed. Then He will be under the radar of the 32-20. the last one caught a Hornady 100gr XTP going around 1900fps. I like green beans too. .

Chickens will eat just about anything... and I thought I had seen it all until I saw a rooster snatch a running mouse and gulp it like a snake...
