I'd probably get that, and I'm broke, and have sworn off buying new guns for awhile....

No kidding! I'll do you better than that!

Congrats on the rifle though! There is no conceivable way you made the wrong decision. You have a crazy sweet rifle and if you ever decide you don't really want it, you will absolutely be able to make a profit by selling it.........to me.....

I would have bought that, and I don't even like mdl 71s... would've used it to trade for a .45-70 1886, which I DO like. Yea, yea, I know. :x :x

Well I picked up the Winchester Model 71 today.

It is beautiful. Only fired 6 rounds so the PO says. Came with box, owners booklet, a set of RCBS dies, shell holder and one cartridge......It has a Lyman peep site installed. Does anyone know if these were drilled and tapped at the factory for a receiver mounted sight?

As soon as it stops raining I'll take some pictures and post them.

But here is the good part......

After picking up the rifle, I went a 1/2 mile down the road to another friends gun shop......and what do I see on the shelf.......

Commemorative Browning Model 71 ammo......348 Winchester

Amazing the stuff he has in that shop! Sold the box full of loaded ammo for $25

Can't wait to give it some range time!

Congratulations, you stole that one. Yes, these were factory drilled and tapped for receiver sights.

Now I need to find bullets. I ordered brass from Buffalo Arms, but I've not been able to find jacketed bullets yet.

Seems Barnes used to make some and Hornady has one. Slim pick'ns...

I'm going to order an Accurate Mold...Either the 35-220B or the 35-220C....Haven't decided on the Ojive yet.

Sent you an email

You got a deal on the ammo. It brings 50 to 70 a box often, depending on current demand.

That was an excellent deal. I paid just over $700 for mine about 10 years ago. By the time I added dies and mold, I had almost $800 invested. Still a deal. At the time I found some Buffalo Bore on closeout(I forget where). I also bought a mold from Mountain Molds. Mountain Molds had not gone to strictly "design your own" at that time.

The Buffalo Bore has significant recoil but withstandable. The cast bullets work well too. I don't hunt with it but enjoy shooting(with cast).

I don't know. I bought some a while back to play with, but haven't yet. They are probably a little soft for harder animals, but for moose or deer they should be great.
