antelope

Post by Marlin32 »

Headed for Wyoming tomorrow for antelope ( and sage grouse )
Taking the Sako .243 Forester, its a tack driver, not as big a slug as I normally like, but should do.
Marlin 338 XLR is back up. Little bit over kill for goats, but I know it will put bullet where I point it a loooonggg way out, Further than I plan on shooting at antelope.

What part of Whyoming are you headed to? Maybe could give you some places to try.
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.

My one and only real vacation, other then my honeymoon, if that counts, my buddy forced me to go Antelope hunting with him in Montana, I used a 243 also, it was more then adequate.
Was nervous, as I never shot anything over 100 yds. here in the East, but it was no problem. Trust your ballistics, and allow for the wind. Had a blast, saw new country, took a nice antelope at 325 yds, met some nice folks, glad I went!

I went last year for Antelope, I also went to Wyoming. We hunted near Casper off of Poison Spider. There were 2 kinds of people in Wyoming. The nicest folks I ever met and the polar opposite. I hope you only meet the first batch. I also used a .243 in a Ruger 77 UL, I killed my antelope at 225 yards off hand with 80 gr Federal Hi shok ammo. This was after chasing them around for 3 days with a bow.
Good luck and watch for Prairie rattlers. they were everywhere.
