Winchester 90 gallery rifle
I didn't want to hijack rossim22' s thread on the Henry pump .22 but thought I you might enjoy this. I bought this a few years ago, a late Win 90 in .22 short, nickel or chrome plated, I don't know which, with a gallery style loading tube and a mirror bore. Way back when, when you went to the fair, there was always a shooting gallery and over head were the prizes and right in the middle was a nickel plated Winchester model 90!! On my, if I could just win that No one ever did of course, but you could dream. Well, this one is just like that one, in fact it is that one! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!
By the way, we took it out and shot it last weekend and it really shoots good.

That's a fine looking rifle! I like the crescent buttplate and the octagon barrel in particular.
Have you hugged your rifle today?

Re: Winchester 90 gallery rifle
I don't know if it is original or not, but I've only seen one like it, and I surely do like it, too. Thanks for the comments....
Ya know, that gives me an idea....I should get a Winchester letter on it...

I really like those old Winchester pumps but never have owned one. My cousin had one that we used shoot once in a while. My eyes won't allow squirrel hunting with open sights any longer though. So I stick with rifles that are scopable. Beautiful rifle there though, have fun with it.

Re: Winchester 90 gallery rifle
I own a customized 1890. Some one before me had it pistol gripped and added a fancy wood checkered stock that is several inch's longer than standard. It has the long octagon barrel. They also put on a nice grade smooth wood forearm. When I bought it about 35 years ago it was in .22 WRF. Since it already was worked on I had my gunsmith convert it to .22 WMRF. That`s really just a longer .22 wrf, same bore. The rifle fits me better than any other rifle I own.

Re: Winchester 90 gallery rifle
My local gun shop has one made in 1891, it has the non take down receiver and is well used. He turned down an offer of £1250.00. He didn't know what is was until I told him, wish I'd kept my mouth shut...

Re: Winchester 90 gallery rifle
Beautiful rifle.
I had one that had obviously been worn out in a gallery as the chamber was way over size in the back half. A friend gave it to me when I was about 12 and I spent many hours working on it. Never did get it to be reliable. Now I have the Rossi copy and my 10 year old daughter shot up a box of 50 22 LRs through it last evening. Her second box of shells.

Re: Winchester 90 gallery rifle
Growing up my first two rifles were Winchesters. One the single shot .22 "boys" rifle. The second was a model 61 takedown with an octagon barrel. I fell in love with octagon barrels. Sadly no one, at least that I've seen, every put octagon barrels on center fire bolt guns.
There is something about the way an octagon barrel handles. And they just plain look good.

Re: Winchester 90 gallery rifle
I too am a sucker for octagon bbls. I bought a B78, (Brownings Hi-wall) in 30-06 when they first came out in '70 or '71 mostly because it has a tapered octagon barrel. They came with 1 in 14 inch twist so it will only stabilize up to 165 grain bullets but boy is it accurate with those!
