Marlin Jam
I have an old model 1895 that jammed on me. There is a fired round in the chamber & I can not work the lever to extract it. Tried a cleaning rod from the muzzle end no luck. Took gun apart & I can not move the locking bolt or the receiver bolt. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Marlin Jam
Have you removed the lower plate screws? This will be 4 screws, hammer, rear tang (stock), front plate screw under the front of the carrier and lastly the side screw above the lever on the left side of the action. With them out, the lever and carrier screws out, you should be able to remove the locking lug and then the bolt.

Sounds like you already have the trigger plate off the gun? Something you might try is to use a large brass drift but grind it to fit the rear of breech bolt where the hammer hits. Then use a hammer and try to drive the bolt forward. There should be enough headspace to allow it to push the brass case forward enough to free the locking bolt.

Re: Marlin Jam
Jam is gone. Talked to a gunsmith & he said take a brass hammer or something that would not mar the receiver &
tap on the bolt several times. I did just that probably around 6 times & she freed easily. Must be one of the tricks of the trade

Re: Marlin Jam
How did that case look? How about the primer? Possible overload? I would want to know why that happened before I trusted the combination to use as a hunting rifle. Stay safe my friend!
Re: Marlin Jam
No it was empty case. I think my sizing die maybe out of tolerance. RCBS said to send 3 fired cases & the sizing die & they would check the specs & make any corrections.

Re: Marlin Jam
Remove the lever, locking light and bolt.
Place those parts in a drawer for safe keeping, and replace the rest of the Marlin with an '86 Winchester or Browning...

Re: Marlin Jam
I collect the old 1895 Marlins & I have every caliber chambered including the 45-85 Marlin. Pretty darn hard for me to sell or replace a Marlin with a Winchester.
