30-30 Wildcat question
My uncle just dropped me off a cartridge and asked me to figure out what it is. This weekend from an estate he ended up with a bunch of loaded ammo and some dies and we have no idea what they are.
First, they are a shortened 30-30 case.
Case length is 1.58.
Overall loaded length is 2.146.
Bullet is .308.
Any ideas? If you need more info or a picture, let me know.

I believe Terry is on this one.

Re: 30-30 Wildcat question
There have been many versions of the shortened .30 wcf over the years. The .30 wcf aka. .30-30 has a long neck, ideal for cast bullet shooting ,but the case capacity is way larger than needed for cast bullet competition. Target shooters have been shortening it for almost as long as the .30-30 has been around.
The Huntington ,origionator of RCBS, catalog of wildcat die sets available lists at least a couple dozen based on the .30 wcf and the .25,.32,.38 etc. cartriges that share the case head. Finding the exact and proper name of that cartridge may be quite a task. Are the dies not marked with that info or makers name?
As Terry said. The .30 Herrett is one of the best known versions.

AOL probably isn't an issue as most guns so chambered were single shots. The saami info doesn't specify.
