is there a current substitute for Radio Shack?
I used to get all kinds of switches and relays and Battery compartments from them so I could fix stuff or make stuff, but there don't seem to be any Radio Shacks around anymore. Is there some online source that has decent prices for retail/hobby purchases?

Also....

I was in Radio Shack (now Cell Phone Shack ) years ago looking for a home phone. While the young salesman was "helping" me the girl at the counter got a phone call, and interrupted us to say that the caller on the phone was wanting to know if they carried electrolytic condensers. The salesman shrugged and said, "No." and shook his head, obviously confused. The girl passed the information on to the caller and hung up. I pointed to the drawer near the bottom of a display that said "Electrolytic capacitors" and said, "Yeah you do." After a look of more confusion (I interpreted to mean, "how do you know that?") they both just shrugged again and said, Oh well."
Sigh......

I presume they weren't debating the merits of the 9x69R vs the 9x57?BlaineG wrote: Oh...just like the gun counter at WallyWorld....(Where I was once entertained by a conversation between the clerk, and a another idiot about the best 9mm round for bear hunting)

In Washington, if it's .24 cal or better, and has a 4 inch barrel, technically you can hunt with it.

Whelen, for one, thought quite highly of the latter.earlmck wrote:I presume they weren't debating the merits of the 9x69R vs the 9x57?

I have an Amazon Prime membership so I tend to try and make the membership pay for it's self. If you know what you're looking for by name, that's always the first place I look.

You should have recorded that with your cell phone and let us all benefit from that meeting of the minds.BlaineG wrote:Where I was once entertained by a conversation between the clerk, and a another idiot about the best 9mm round for bear hunting)

Oh, that's an easy one. 124 gr. JHP for Black Bear and a 147 gr. RNFP for Grizzlies. A Griz is a bit harder to put down...124gr v. 147gr....
