A morning in Wyoming

My friend is about 70 and afflicted with MS to the point he can slowly walk around a little but not much. MS is some really bad chit , slow acting and no cure for it. Anyway, last Friday I took him out about 40 miles from town and got him onto a few prairie dogs, which he had never shot before. He has a .22-250 Savage, big ol' heavy bruiser that loads from the left side, much too heavy for him to carry around or maneuver much. We discovered we could use a couple of sandbag rests and shoot off the tailgate pretty well, so that's what we did. He had bought some sort of tripod thingie but it wasn't worth the powder to blow it to hell. He would shoot two or three and that was all he wanted for a while, we would move on down the trail for a ways and shoot a couple more, I think in 3 hours or so we each got maybe a dozen. He enjoyed it immensely, getting out into the field on a beautiful Wyoming morning was more important to him than the number of kills. I had a great morning afield with a friend and shot a little. Don't know what else a guy would want.

ALL of us old guys, even if not fighting some ailment, benefit greatly from getting out in nature and doing a little shooting. You are a good friend to your buddy!!

Thanks to all for your kind comments. For all I know, I could be the next one to need help, I'm 75 and I can tell you the slope gets a little more slippery every year.

Well done! I took my 70 year old father out shooting gophers last month he, my brother and I had a blast.
