HP Laptop running Win8 problem Need Help

Post by Ben_Rumson »

I've never liked using the key pad I use a wireless mouse
After the last automatic update the backspace key does not function when I want to go back
a page. Now to get back it’s mouse only. Its been far simpler to just hit the backspace key

I need someone to tell me how to fix that Please

.

I use the EASY button, and never allow updates - which stood me in good stead for the last 8 years, on my previous HP laptop.

(I got another HP laptop for $300 @ WallyWorld several months ago, when my old HP gave up the ghost)

You can reset your laptop back to the last time (date) that everything was OK, using the "F" keys (f1-f12) - but if updates are allowed afterwards, you'll soon be back in the same boat.

AFAIK, you'll most likely need to upgrade your Windows 8 to the current Windows 10 before websites start to refuse to recognize Windows 8.

The 1st time I was exposed to Windows 10 was when I bought the new HP.

I thought it was a real PITA, at first, but soon got used to it.

ALT + Left Arrow
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

First - it would be wise to heed this timely advice:

As of last January, Microsoft dropped Windows 8 Support.

For a long time, you could get free Win 10 updates, which I took advantage of. I don't know if you will have to pay for the upgrade now. With all of the computer attacks and upgrades of whatever software you may use, if you use the Internet and/or use more than just a word processor and spreadsheet, staying with Windows 8 is bad juju.

As for your specific problem, try this:
1) Back up your system completely, if you have the media (USB Hard Drive or whatever) to do it.
That way, you can undo any problems caused by any "fix."

2) Download the latest mouse driver for your particular device. Constant Windows updates have been the culprit for more than one hardware problem.

3)Remove your mouse from "Devices."

4) Install the latest wireless mouse driver update. Instructions usually call for you to hit an initiation button of some kind; can't exactly remember because it's been a long time since I used one - seemed to be a nuisance for me. I always use a track ball connected by USB.

5) If that doesn't fix it, or if you can't find the update online -

6) After you have removed your wireless mouse driver, re-install it with your original one.
