Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
From yesterday's "Mid-Day Digest" by the Patriot Post:
Colin Kaepernick's Unsportsmanlike Conduct
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick signed a six-year, $114,000,000 contract, as well as a $12,328,766 signing bonus, $61,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,000,000. On Friday, he refused to stand for the National Anthem before the preseason game, later declaring he is "not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." He neglected to mention that the vast majority of murdered people of color are killed by other people of color. He also neglected to mention that he was adopted by white parents.
Naturally, the 49ers took the position that it's Kaepernick's "right" to not stand for the anthem. "The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony," the team said in a statement. "It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem."
Of course they're right as far as it goes — no one said it wasn't Kaepernick's "right" to be an idiot. But that doesn't make him any less an idiot to show such contempt for the nation that made him a wealthy man.
Also, just a reminder: Kaepernick plays for the same NFL that doesn't mind when Rams players take the field in the "hands up, don't shoot" posture, but refuses to let the Dallas Cowboys wear a helmet sticker showing solidarity with Dallas police.
People will ask me why I no longer follow football, knowing I enjoyed playing it and following it as a young man. This just caps it. When I was young, the league maintained standards. If you didn't want to follow the law, stay out of trouble, groom yourself appropriately, you could go do something else for a living. And this was before ALL of the players were paid like kings (some even more). Now, half of the league appears to be thugs. A good portion every year are involved in violent crimes. The league is more concerned about appealing to moral deviants then supporting police. And some mental midget slams the country where he lives that's freedom enables him to be paid a ridiculous sum FOR PLAYING A FREAKING GAME. If he had to go out and get a real job he'd be lucky to earn 1/2000ths of his new contract.
He shouldn't be standing for the national anthem - he should be on his knees thanking God that he lives in this country right now.
Kaepernick is free to express his views. With all freedoms come responsibilities - and consequences. The NFL, like any employer, needs to understand that the actions of their employees have consequences as well. The viewing public are their customers. If I did something to thorough anger so many of my company's customers they would boot me so far and fast my head would spin. If the NFL doesn't start cleaning shop, they shouldn't be surprised when they continue to lose viewership (customers), by the thousands...

.
FWIW, the NFL home company is actually a consortium of very deep pocketed NFL team owners.
The NFL is a BIG money-maker in the USA.
I doubt two things:
1) Almost NOBODY in the US is about to boycott the NFL & NFL games - in either ticket-buying, TV watching, or playing fantasy football.
2) In terms of the tens of billions of US Dollars that American football brings the NFL, they just don't sweat the small stuff.
Here's the NFL's box score against some other US companies in the 9-10 Billion dollars-per-annum range:

I'm just sitting here hoping that Ronnie Lott can save my Raiders from moving to Vegas. Who ever heard of pirates in the desert anyways?

Re: Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
I watch a game once every three or four years. Frankly, it's beyond my understanding why those people get paid so much.
As to the jock and his poor attitude...
He's living off the fat of the land, and he's never personally contributed a thing to support or to improve the society that has elevated him to unearned wealth. It's the typical behavior of a crybaby halfling with too much money and a podium to criticize an institution that he has never participated in, and can never fully understand.
As an American citizen, he's got the right, but it saddens me that so many excellent people have had to pay the dues just so that he can show his azz.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

As long as the NFL allows players like Colin Kaepernick to stay on, while they insult the USA... I refuse to watch any of the games.
I would rather watch a good western.

I'm probably on some "list"... but I write letters to their TV sponsors complaining... and as much as possible, don't buy products that support them.

it's the advertisers that pay the bills and saleries. boycot them and it will matter eventually. but you have to write to them as Griff says and say what the objection is.
given all the money he rakes in for warming a bench and whining, why isn't he himself OUT THERE RELIEVING THE DISTRESS OF THE OPRESSED?
he would prefer to whine and falsely accuse the nation that doesn't want to be thugged by his bros:
the narration about the police is largely a total lie, the t.v. stuff from Brown and others is a complete lie. The Baltimore cops all were aquitted based on facts-in-evidence, yet the crybaby quarterminded seatmaster is carrying water for the lies and liars. the nfl should be deeply ashamed.
but, big but, this is America's shame, that lying is normal, covering up facts and truth is normal, and calling good evil is normal. it's the rotted culture.
but, BIGGER BUT, Christ died to save sinners, I can only pray that every self-righteous one of them will repent and put their faith in Jesus and become part of his righteousness. amen.

I think so. We call it kick-ball to isolate it from the American game, stick-ball, also called baseball.

Re: Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
IMO most modern (televised and "followed") "sport" falls into 2 primary categories:
Swingy Stick (obvious enough) and Sports Ball (get ball here across line there (grunt)).
Some sports combine the two (golf, polo, lacrosse, hockey, etc.) but by in large it comes down to swingy stick and sports ball.
I prefer skeet.

I seem to remember hearing on the radio program years ago that the NFL is actually considered a "non-profit corporation" in terms of its business structure.....

Re: Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
I'm part of the "almost nobody" crowd, as I refuse to watch the 49er's play until they properly address this, or trade Kaepernick. Then I'll refuse to watch whatever team picks him up!
Lifelong 49er's fan, but also a veteran, and what he's doing is a slap in the face to all who lost their lives for the freedom that allows him to sit during the anthem!
He's too stupid to look around and find another way to help young black men avoid a life of crime, or do something to avoid them killing each other, or dying in prison. Considering his vast wealth, and ability to make change, he chooses to simply sit during the National Anthem, rather than put his wealth and influence to good use. After all, it doesn't cost him a dime to sit, but being able to sit cost a whole lot of good men's lives!

An old man, A WWII vet, takes a few minutes to stand from his wheelchair for the Pledge at the American Legion, it is a sight to see. Perhaps he should meet with this young man to show him how a MAN behaves.
Re: Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
I watched 1 NFL game in the last 3 years. A fellow named Peyton led his team to a win. I only watched it because there was nothing else on. Yawn.

Re: Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
There was another NFL player that chewed his butt. Other guy was black also and said that second string shouldbe standing proud and being a role model for the young black kids that if you work hard enough you too can make it. I wish I could remember who it was because I would be willing to follow his career. As far as seconod string goes, if he likes the bench that much maybe he ought to spend the rest of the season there. It has come out that second string converted to Islam 2 years ago and his girlfriend is an activist for......BLACK LIVES MATTER. Screw you butthole all lives matter.
a Pennsylvanian who has been accused of clinging to my religion and my guns......Good assessment skills.

I think He should remain on the bench, where He belongs...most people at the place where I work get in a football frenzy every year. our company allows "dress up" days to support the teams. anymore I just laugh it off . We spend our lives working for peanuts hoping We live to retire . I remind them how much these hero's are being paid.
A few weeks ago in His final week of His career Alex Rodriguez from the Yankees was shedding a tear about His career coming to an end. Sports center reported that in 22 years He had been paid.............480 million $$.

Re: Another nail in the coffin of the NFL
It is not just Kaepernick or other anti-American thugs in the NFL (or other so-called "professional" sports). It's the leagues themselves. Note the double standard...
NFL Allows Anti-Cop Socks, but Outlaws Pro-Cop Decals
By Todd Starnes
Sep. 2, 2016
Last month San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick showed up at a pre-season camp wearing socks that featured cartoon pigs wearing police hats, USA Today reports.
The embattled second-rate quarterback defended his anti-police apparel on Instagram.
“I wore those socks, in the past, because the rogue cops that are allowed to hold positions in police departments, not only put the community in danger, but also put the cops that have the right intentions in danger by creating an environment of tension and mistrust,” he wrote.
Kaepernick apparently despises the police more than he despises the national anthem.
The latest twist in the anti-American Kaepernick saga reveals an ugly double standard in the National Football League.
Last month the NFL rejected a request from the Dallas Cowboys to wear decals honoring the memory of five assassinated police officers.
So why is it okay for players to wear anti-cop socks, but not pro-cop decals?
“It’s just ridiculous that the same league that prohibits the Dallas (Cowboys) football club from honoring the slain officers in their community with their uniforms stands silent when Kaepernick is dishonoring police officers with what he’s wearing on the field,” Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, told USA Today.
