New Henry update.
I recently purchased a Henry US Survival Rifle. I had shot it at a range once and it was shooting 6 feet right at 50 yards. I didn't notice something important at that time. Yesterday while spending Thanksgiving with a friend at his farm, I got it out to see if I could sight it in. That was when I noticed that the barrel was pointing up and right. I have contacted Henry and will update when I hear from them.
I got an email today that Henry is sending me a new barrel. I will try it. It should work. Report to follow.

Re: New Henry
Yes, it's a current version by yet another manufacturer. The Armalite and Charter Arms versions seemed to have few problems that the more recent ones. I seem to recall that Henry is the fourth manufacturer.
I find it interesting that you hear quite a few folks bad mouth them, yet it's been brought back three times since the original. I have a Charter arms version from many years back. Does what was advertised with reasonable accuracy and reliability.

Re: New Henry
It is very light and packs up in the stock. Supposed to float. Once it gets repaired, I will take it to the range and try it out. Hopefully I can post pictures.

Re: New Henry
I had one of the Henry survival rifles, it was quite accurate and reliable but I never really liked the oversized stock, there are aftermarket parts available in the US but unfortunately not over here.

Re: New Henry
First off, the email you sent, goes right to the President of the company. Do not be surprised, they will send a pick up order for your gun and it will either be repaired or replaced within a week. I kid you not. I had issues with a 22 levergun and it was repaired and back at my door in a week, as promised. It STILL had issues, so another pick up order was sent, and a new gun replaced it.piller wrote:I recently purchased a Henry US Survival Rifle. They were that good. Unbelievable customer service.

Re: New Henry
Years ago I knew an AR7 that was ' worked' if your trigger finger was a little too heavy it would double, triple or dump the whole mag at once!
Seems to me this Henry in question probably has a bad barrel/ receiver lock up.
No doubt Henry will rectify it in no time at all!

Re: New Henry
I had a Charter years ago & jettisoned it because it did double on me.
Henry has tweaked the design, it's still no target gun, but it's a better version than the previous makers, and it's intended to be a self-contained survival/pack gun deal.
In that role, fitting everything including three mags inside its stock, it is unique.

Re: New Henry update.
I just received the replacement barrel from Henry. It appears to be straight. I held it to a yardstick, and it seems fine. The old one is obviously warped. Might have happened in the store. I just didn't pay attention at the time. My fault for not looking at it closely. Henry came through. Good customer service.
I will try it at the range when my schedule allows.

Re: New Henry update.
Did they ask for the bent barrel back?
I had an RWS air rifle I picked up with a bent barrel, still shot great but always high. While is was at TSJC gun smith school an instructor showed us how to straighten barrels, WHACK IT ON A BLOCK OR BABBIT! But you have to hit it with the bend, not against. I never thought it would work but by god he beat that barrel back to about .005"-.010" along its length! Sucker still shoots good enough to cut a playing card on edge(@30')

Re: New Henry update.
In this case the bend was from someone NOT getting the spring cocked. When the barrel closed under spring pressure the barrel slammed and the muzzle kept going causing the front sight up.
When he was beating that babbit bar he held the breech end with the sights up, with the bend. Have to eyeball where the bend is and strike at that point. It's exactly opposite of how it got bent.

They have not asked for the bent barrel back as of yet. I will be happy to send it back of they ask for it.
